Drowning...you were drowning, suspended in cold water you were unwillingly inhaling. Above you, sunlight and bubbles filled your vision in the slightly dark liquid. How...how did I get here? Where's mom and padre? You thought, unable to come up with the answers to the questions permeating your mind. The last thing you could remember was going shopping with your parents, but it was blank after that.

Feeling a burning in your throat, you pulled yourself from your thoughts, agreeing with your body's warning to focus more on surviving the moment. Thrashing, you attempted to get out of the watery prison, surprised when you discovered a pressure was holding you down. Wha? Something's holding me down? what's going on...

Scrambling more earnestly now, you flapped your arms around frantically, searching for source of the pressure. Luckily you found it, your hands brushing against arms in your struggle. Somebody, not something was purposely assaulting you. Opposed to the idea of drowning, you tried to pry the hands off of you at first, immediately moving onto kicking when that proved ineffective. Both attempts ultimately proved to be unsuccessful however, much to your disappointment.

It felt like your lungs were going to bust at this point, but you never gave up, your mind thinking of one last thing to do that could possibly save you. Determined and rapidly losing strength, you mustered up the last of your energy and bit down hard on one of the arms, drawing blood. This seemed to do the trick, the pressure instantly easing up and retreating to the surface. You also followed suit, wasting no time in escaping.

Gasping, water splashed as you resurfaced, gulping in air as you assessed your surroundings. It didn't last long however as you were slammed against a hard surface a moment later. Your head spinned painfully at the impact, yet you endured, intent on looking at your attacker. It was your mother much to your shock.

"Mom?? What...what are you doing?" You choked out, the grip on your neck tightening. You could feel liquid dripping down your neck--whether from water or blood you didn't know, as you gazed at your mother. She had an apathetic look on her face as she continued to strangle you.

"You were out for a little while in the water, I honestly thought you were dead" your mom stated, her brown eyes burning darkly. "I should've known you wouldn't have died so quickly though...you were a fighter after all." The words your mother spoke were stressed as she squeezed even tighter, her nails digging into your skin. "Mo...mom, you..." You trailed off, thrashing around as your air was restricted again. Your mother narrowed her eyes at you.

"I know you can't see very well from your vantage point, but can you smell it (y/n)? The fire? The village is burning because of you. Everyone tried to tell us not to take you in that day, that you had the look of the destroyer but (f/n) didn't believe them!!" Your mom was crying now, her grip like a boaconstricter around your throat. "He didn't believe in the mark of the destroyer and I trusted him so I let it slide!! Oh god...Didn't I treat you well? If I did then why does the only thing I have to show for it a burning community and a dead husband!? Why?!? Why didn't anybody kill you so I wouldn't have to now!?!?"

You hadn't exactly understood what your mother had been rambling about at first, but it was made more clear when you were suddenly dunked back under the water. Your head hitting the hard surface for a second time jolting your memory.

You kicked dirt, enjoying the way dust flew in the air as you walked with your mom and dad. Your father, smiled at your antics, getting your attention with his voice."You know (n/n), your mother has been telling me about the consistently good grades you've been getting in class. That's really good you know?" your dad chirped, ruffling your hair.
