The smell of lemon brought a smile to your lips as you poured yourself some tea, the aroma a welcome addition to the humble abode you currently shared. Tapping your foot to a nonexistent beat, you entertained the idea of finally confessing your feelings to Goku Black (or Zamas as you originally knew him), when the sound of the front door opening drew you from your thoughts.

He's back already? You thought, frowning when you checked the time.

Although you weren't against the idea of seeing Black sooner than expected, it unsettled you to know that the Kai had returned prematurely from carrying out his plans. After all, achieving a world of no mortals was a big deal to Black. So much so that not even your pleas to have him come home earlier had worked.

Placing your cup of tea onto the table, you straightened yourself out, before jogging to the front door, curious to hear an explanation.

"Hey..." you said, your words faltering when your eyes landed on Black. So much blood your mind echoed out to you, your eyes wide as they examined the Kai head to toe. It looked like blood had rained upon him.

"You look like you've seen a ghost...did I close the door too loud and scare you?" Black asked, wiping his feet on the welcome mat. "No...I'm just surprised to see you here so soon," you replied, a frown settling on your face.

Black was being nonchalant about it, but was this the reason for his return? This was the first time you'd seen the Kai look less than pristine after venturing out, so surely his appearance had something to do with it. Was Black injured? You bit your lip at the thought.

"Are you okay? You're...you're all bloody," you pointed out, wringing your hands together. Black arched a brow, halting his movements to look at you. "Yes, despite the blood, I can assure you that no one laid a hand on me," Black said, properly standing to fix his gaze on you.

Despite trying to hide it, the Kai could still tell you were concerned. The thought made the Kai chuckle. You always were one to assume the worst. Satisfied that no blood would be trekked onto the floor, Black approached you, stopping when he was arms distance.

"There's no need to be worried (y/n)," Black said, lifting a hand to gently pat your head. "There aren't many mortals left who could injure me in anyway," Black explained, his mind recalling that his biggest obstacles were in the past at the moment.

You stammered, silently wondering if the Kai had hit his head on the way to the cabin as his words and actions sunk in. It wasn't like Black to be so touchy. He'd never exhibited that trait even in his former body.

"Yeah?  Then...why are you home so early? You never come home early," you said, halfheartedly swatting Black's hand away. "Besides, I'm not that worried, you just look like you've been beat within an inch of your life," you said, glaring at the Kai pointedly as you defended yourself. However, your voice betrayed you. Black could only huff out a laugh.

"Is that so? It hurts me to hear you say that," Black replied, an enigmatic smile tugging at his lips as he admired your reddened features. You'd never worn the color before, but Black decided it would contrast well against your (unnatural color) skin tone.

"Y-yeah, well I'm sure you'll recover," you said, averting your gaze. "Anyway, you didn't answer my question," you said, your eyes roaming over Black's face and clothes again. You were tempted to trap the Kai in the hallway until he explained himself. However, the thought of doing so made you sweat. "I'm back because I don't fancy the idea of keeping tainted blood on me more than neccessary," Black answered, brifely glancing at himself.

So nonchalant you thought, critiquing the Kai's calm demeanor. Nonetheless, your worries were dispelled, if only a little. "Oh, well I guess I shouldn't hold you up any longer then. Blood is a pain to remove the longer you wait," you said, stepping aside to allow Black more room. "Yes, it is," Black agreed, sparing you once last glance before stepping past you.

Really (y/n )? You had his undivided attention, yet all you did was ask a question? you thought, inwardly slapping yourself as you replayed the conversation. It's not too late to fix it (y/n), he's still within range, you can still confess your mind pushed back at you, encouraging you to tell Black how you felt.

You chewed on your lip, weighing your options, but ultimately you knew what you wanted to do. "Black, wait!" You called out to the Kai, barely catching his wrist.

"What is it (y/n)?" Black asked, tilting his head as he turned to look at you. Would he really reciprocate your feelings if you told him? I highly doubt it you thought to yourself, your mouth going dry as you scrambled to find some words to say.

"I...um...I didn't mean what I said back there...I really was concerned for you. You shouldn't go scaring me like that you know," you said, kicking yourself for chickening out at the last minute.

"Is that all you have to tell me?" Black questioned, almost as if he knew what you'd actually wanted to say in the beginning. The worlds looking out for you (y/n) are you really gonna skip out on it? Your mind questioned you as you chewed your lip, debating if you should really take a leap of faith.

"Of course, what else am I supposed to say?" You finally replied, doubling down on your back peddling. You just couldn't risk ruining your friendship over such a trivial thing. It'd taken so long for you to even get this close to the Kai after all.

Black said nothing then, the quiet passing between the two of you almost unbearable as you felt the Kai's eyes on you. Why is he still here, just go away already  you thought, freezing when Black suddenly kissed the corner of your mouth.

"I'm not sure...it just seemed like you wanted to say something more," Black finally said, enjoying how confused you looked. "Thank you for caring for me though (y/n), you really are too kind to me," the Kai said, a glimmer of something passing through his eyes as he continued onto the bathroom.

You could only watch Black as he left, subconsciously touching the mark he'd left on you as your knees wobbled. What just happened? You thought, your brain fried.
