Blood for Blood

Chapter Five

I heard the sound of a pickup truck pull up beside me. I turned to see if it was reality or just my flooded/ full of thoughts head. A pickup truck. An old red Chevy. Rusted up near the tires, and ply wood sitting in the bed of the truck. The front window rolled down. A gothic-looking boy, about my age, with long black hair, lots of piercings, and some thick eyeliner. He looked like he would be from some metal band I didn't know about. "So where you going?" He asked. He acted like some taxi driver."Ummm...and you are??" I asked. "Aryn Jones." He said." Call me Viper. And you?"

"Jennifer Taylor." I say. "Oh." He mumbled," you need a ride?"

"Uh- no I can walk. It's just 2 miles away. Thanks." He laughed at me. "Come on." He said,"it's pouring out. You look cold." I thought for a moment then decided to get in the front passenger side of his truck. "I don't care if you get the seat wet." He said,"it's my dad's." I looked over at him and slightly laughed." Well you're mean." He laughed back and nodded his head."I know. Sometimes I am. Honestly. So were we going?"

"West Fourth Street." I answered,"I need to make it to the hospital." He gave off a worried look."Why?"

"Because my friend, Brennan is in the hospital. He's okay." His face went from worried to completely shocked. "Brennan?!" He asked," he's my best friend! Whys he there?!" I had to lie to him. I didn't want him knowing what I did to Brennan or that I am a vampire. "Oh he got a cut on the back of his neck. He just has to get stitches. No big deal." Aryn quickly pressed the gas pedal and made his way to the hospital.

We pulled into the parking lot and ran into the hospital building so that we wouldn't get that wet. Aryn, in fact, ran and pulled me so fast I couldn't even see were he was taking me. "What floor?!" He asked anxious. "Uh uh..." I said," 8. Room 23B. Yeah. That's right." He pushed the up button on the elevator and waited for the two doors to slide open.
