I walked in and jumped in between Scotty and Gabby.
"Ughh!" A muffled groan came from Scotty.
"Is it breakfast time already?" Gabby asked.
"No, it's dinner time," I replied.
Gabby sprung up. "I slept that long?"
"No, you slept for like two hours. Brady and Liam just got home and wanted to order food. So I was coming to wake you guys up."
"Well, how thoughtful of you to wake us up before the food has even been delivered. Now I can sit here and wait instead of being asleep," Scotty muttered super sarcastically.
"You're welcome," I replied in a cheerful tone.
"You seem in a good mood." Gabby laid her head on my stomach curling up next to me. I could tell she was still tired and out of it.
"I am. It's hard to be in a bad mood when I have all the people I love most in one house," I said.
"Your parents are home with Aiden?" Scotty asked.
"Well, no," I said.
"Your grandparents are here?" Scotty continued.
"No."
"Your aunts, uncles, and cousins?"
"Okay, okay. Not everyone, Miss. Why can't you take a compliment?"
"I just didn't know if I had to make myself look presentable before I walked down the stairs," Scotty said, rolling over onto me.
"Like you really care what you look like in front of my family."
"At least let me pretend." Scotty let out a sigh.
We laid there for awhile until Liam ran up and practically pulled Scotty by her feet off the bed. The whole night we all spent laughing and watching movies. We even began playing a Harry Potter trivia game. Liam came in first, Brady and I tied for second, Gabby was third and I'm not even sure if Scotty got one right. She had never truly watched or read any of the books, but she was being a good sport and made us all laugh.
We were all very competitive and sometimes had a tendency of letting things get out of hand. One time we were banned from playing any sort of game for a whole two weeks because my dad had to go to the doctors after getting the 'cannon' monopoly piece out from his foot. Brady and I had been in a fight, because I thought he was cheating. After arguing, the game and all of its many pieces wound up scattered all over the living room. My dad ran downstairs to see what was going on, and when he jumped from the stairs, he landed right on the cannon.
My mom had to buy us another monopoly board game that year since half the pieces were missing and one of them ended up in my dad's foot. Turns out in the newer version of monopoly the cannon piece was retired. Wonder why?
That's, however, not how this night went. Sure it was a little competitive, but that was to be expected. We spent most of the game laughing at Scotty's answers and the other, laughing at how intense Liam had been playing. I hate to admit it, but he had loved Harry Potter more than me.
After the game, we decided to start watching Harry Potter, because Scotty truly had no clue what was going on. We all laughed and cuddled up on the couch. I wish I had a picture of this moment, because I knew it was one of those times I'd always treasure.
I didn't even remember falling asleep, but what I do remember is thinking about what my dad said to me. About taking people for granted. The whole entire time Garrett and I were together, I only thought I had him in my life. He was the most important person to me, and I stopped recognizing all of those other people that actually were there for me. I don't know why I didn't see that I was way to wrapped up in Garrett being my one person, when I had so many other people that loved me, probably more than he ever did.
Sitting in that room last night, looking around at everyone smiling and laughing, and knowing they were all there to help me, I felt so stupid for thinking that Garrett was my person, when these were my people. How blessed was I for having all of these amazing people in my life?
