I sat in the backseat as my dad drove my brothers and me to the soccer field. I had learned a lot over the past few weeks. For starters, I've learned that it's important to have your own beliefs and opinions. All of the ideas and plans you have for yourself and the theories you have about this world, life, and everything in it, are important, but it's also important to be open minded. Learning that no matter how old you are, there is so much you can still learn, and it's important to know that experiencing different things can have monumental changes on you and the way you perceive things. Life is constantly changing, and that's scary. I would be lying if I acted like I had it all figured out, because I don't. However, change is inevitable, and if you try to fight it and stay the same, well, then you're stopping yourself from reaching your greater potential.
Overall, I learned the most simplest complex thing, which is that life is complicated. It is filled with so much unknown and at times can even be lonely. That doesn't mean, though, you have to try and force a relationship with someone by changing yourself for them, and by trying to make a relationship work. Sometimes being alone can be a good thing. It can give you time to self-reflect, and learn more about the person you are and who you're maybe one day meant to be.
I learned that it's okay to not have found that 'person' for yourself, because in reality you should be your own person first. Figure out the things that you love and what makes you happy. And if you are really lucky, maybe you won't just find one person. You will find people. The people that will love you through thick and thin. The people who will not only be there to hold you at your low points, but who want to celebrate you at your high points. The ones that make you laugh when you're fighting back tears. The ones that will be that shoulder to cry on. The people who encourage you to be the best version of yourself.
I walked over to the fields with Brady as my dad and Aiden trailed behind us. I saw Liam, Scotty, and Gabby waving us over.
Brady bumped into my shoulder. "What are you thinking about?"
"Just how lucky I am to have found such amazing people."
Brady smiled then threw his arm around me.
It must be a pretty spectacular thing to have found your person, but if you're really lucky, you might just find people.
