Without the earpiece Eliza can say whatever she wanted. She could double-cross them and they won't even know until it's too late. Now all they can do is have faith that Eliza will come through for them, after all they are holding her friends captive.
"Should we deactivate the earpiece?" Helena asks standing casually behind Liam's desk.
He sits on his chair, stooping over his desk. Liam doesn't turn to reply. "No, let's see where he takes it. We may be able to still get a grasp on the situation."
They quietly listened to hear voices from the other end.
"With Eliza here, that means that they see us as a threat."
Another voice answers. "We should strike now. Since she is here, they wouldn't expect it."
"Yeah, they have her here as assurance. In case you haven't noticed, our leader has a soft spot for her. They know that."
"If she's a spy, which I'm sure she is, we should have a public execution and-"
"No, Sebastian would never allow it, beside we could use her as a hostage."
"Do you really think that they value her, or any other of their students lives?"
"No, your probably right, but I don't trust her."
" Me neither. She doesn't have integrity, how can he trust her?"
"Maybe he's naive, which would make him unfit to lead us, or maybe..." He lets his voice trail off and speaks in hushed tones when he talks again. "Maybe he's a traitor."
"Are you saying that he couldn't be trusted either?"
Before they can speak again there's a cracking noise and then static.
"Is the tracker still active?" Inquires Liam.
Helena pulls up a holo screen with a map on it. In that map is a little blue blimp. "Yes," she replies. The light goes out. "Wait, no."
The static turns to silence.
Helena and Liam both remain silent as they try to interpret what they just overheard. Was it an attack against the school or a mutiny that they just overheard?
Helena is the first to break the silence. "What should we do?"
"What do you mean 'what should we do?'" Liam mocks.
"Well, what should our next move be?"
Liam thinks deeply. Contemplating, meditating. What is she up to? Liam knows not to underestimate Eliza. Others may, but not him. He knows the veracity and determination of any of his own blood.
He thinks that he may have underestimated her. She is the one in power. Not him. Liam hates that. Eliza is in the position to alter the outcome. Whether she knows it or not, the future of the human race is in her hands.
Liam shakes his head. "We do nothing." He rubs his hands over his face.
"Nothing? Sir." Helena hesitantly replies.
"Nothing!" He snaps. "Get a firing squad ready, but do not deploy them. Wait until Eliza resurfaces. She may pull through for us yet."
Helena nods. "Why? Sir. Why is having the rebels on your side so important to you?"
"Because if I kill them, this time I won't be able to cover it up. This time the people might turn on us. If that happens we're all done for."
Liam clears his throat and continues. "Originally the plan was to save who we can and who we see fit to save. Now, that changed. With whole republic aware of the upcoming catastrophe, they have become a critical part of our plan. I don't believe that we can save any of them, but I let people who are smaller-minded then us, like Eliza, to believe so in order to get her to help us. We need to keep the people happy or if not so at least optimistic or else there will be an uprising and everyone will die."
Helena nods slowly taking in every word he utters. "Eliza will never help you... in the end."
Liam sighs. "When the time comes, she will be dealt with accordingly."
He has an inborn fondness and fascination with Eliza. He suspects it's because they're family and she reminds him of the sister that he so dearly loved, Lydia. He doesn't want to kill her. Just like how he didn't want to kill Lydia or Kalea either, but Liam feel that there were needed sacrifices for the greater good of the human race.Because of this, he hopes that she chooses the "right" side.
