ALEX'S POV
As soon as I stepped out of the elevator leading to my office, Cole rushed up to meet me.

"Sir, there are some men in your office requesting to see you," he informed me.

"Did they say what they want?" I asked.

"Not exactly. They said it's about the crime at the company... two years ago."

"Alright," I said, waving my right hand in dismissal.

I walked into the office and immediately recognized the faces. These were the same men who had once helped me uncover what I thought was the truth—that Edna had betrayed me.

"Gentlemen, you may sit down," I said, gesturing toward the chairs as I also took my seat.

"I assume this isn't a courtesy visit?" I asked with a smile, trying to keep things light.

"Not at all, Mr. Laurent," one of them replied.
"We're here to inform you about recent developments regarding the conspiracy that occurred in your company."

I motioned for him to go on.

"Sir, based on new evidence, we've discovered that Miss Edna Johnson was framed," he stated plainly.

I froze. The words hit me like a punch to the chest. I rubbed my forehead, trying to process what I'd just heard.

"It... it can't be," I stammered.

"I know this is difficult to hear, sir. That's why we chose to deliver the news in person."

He paused, then continued.
"It appears the person who framed her carefully planted evidence to make it look like Miss Johnson was guilty. We've been trying to trace the IP address responsible, but so far, our IT team hasn't been able to pinpoint it. They're still working on it."

"And what exactly do you want me to do with this information?" I snapped. "Isn't it a little late for this discovery?"

"We understand, sir. But that's why we also came to warn you—be careful. The real culprit is still out there, and we don't know what damage they might cause next."

The men stood, preparing to leave.

I had no words. Guilt surged through me, weighing me down in my chair.

"Sir, if you don't mind, we'll be on our way," one of them said, breaking into my thoughts.

They left without waiting for a reply.

How was I supposed to face Edna after everything I'd just learned?

It felt like I'd been hit by a truck—only this time, I didn't think I could recover.

Was I supposed to tell her that the reason she was fired, humiliated, and blacklisted in the industry... didn't exist? That she was innocent the entire time?

Was I supposed to admit that I blackmailed her into marrying me over a lie?

No.

She would hate me for it—for everything I took from her. She'd cancel the marriage. She could sue the company. And I couldn't afford any of that.

It was better she never found out.
If she did, she'd hate me even more—for destroying her life and for not believing her when she was telling the truth.

But... who was I kidding? She'd find out eventually—whether from me or someone else. And if it came from someone else, it would be even worse.

Maybe it was better if it came from me. Or... so I thought.

"What am I going to do about this situation?" I said aloud, as if someone else were in the room with me.

I needed to act. And fast.

All I could do now was weigh my options.
