4 Months pregnant
Week 19
Apparently the baby is five inches long now and its skeleton wasn't rubbery anymore. I loved these sessions of ours. It was so fascinating to see how the munchkin was growing and sentimental too. Wayne loved it too. It was clear in the look on his face. He always had this goofy grin whenever Dr. Gustavo said something cool or slightly weird, but who am I to judge whether it's weird or not. The whole concept of pregnancy was weird to me, so I didn't exactly qualify for the best judgment.
"See, if you look closely, you can see the baby's chest expanding according to its' breath intake." Dr. Gustavo told us. "I can also take a guess at what the gender is. Would you like to know?"
Wayne and I looked at each other for a moment. He was holding my hand the whole time and gave it a little squeeze when I looked at him questioningly.
"Do you want to know?" he asked quietly.
"Do you?" I asked back.
"It doesn't really matter to me."
I contemplated what to do for a second and then I decided. "I don't want to know."
Wayne looked surprised. "You don't?"
"No, I want it to be a surprise."
A look of understanding crossed his face and then he smiled. "That's actually a cool idea. Yeah, Doc, don't tell us."
Dr. Gustavo shrugged. "Okay, if that's what you want." He punched in a few buttons on the machine and I saw it print the pictures from the screen. "Well, that's it for this session. Remember, if you have any questions to ask before our next session, be sure to call and find out." He handed Wayne the pictures.
"Sure Doc thanks." I said, saying goodbye and leaving to go get cleaned up in the bathroom. Wayne was waiting for me outside, as always. I smiled at him and took my jacket from him.
"Yet another enlightening session with Dr. Gustavo." he said like a news anchorman, but with his smile still in place. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and gave me a squeeze.
"What's with all the squeezing? First you squeeze my hand, now my shoulder, what's up with that?" I asked.
"You are my squeeze." he stated plainly.
I shook my head. "Okay, that was just lame. Think your lines through before you say them please."
"You've got to give me credit for trying."
"No, I don't. Not for something that stupid."
He squeezed me against, but then kissed me. "We're hanging out tonight, okay?"
"Okay? Where and what about my parents?"
"At your place and your parents are fine. I've already asked them, but it's fine anyway because they're going out tonight."
"Those meanies! They didn't even tell me."
He laughed. "They weren't supposed to, our alone-ness was supposed to be a surprise." I watched his mouth turn upwards at the corner to form a smirk.
"Why do I get the feeling our alone-ness is going to involve immoral behavior?"
"It's not." he said in a chuckle. "Well, at least not tonight. Tonight is going to be special."
I eyed him curiously. "What's so special about tonight?"
"You'll just have to wait and see." His smirk was even more prominent now.
"Come on! Tell me!"
"Nope." he said, popping the 'p'.
"Fine! Then I'm not talking to you till we get home." I said, marching ahead of him with my arms crossed.
