Ex boyfriend and his girl

So me and Reese were awkwardly sitting not saying anything .

"So umm who'd you come to the party with?" Reese asked me.

"Oh I just came with Zac and Kayden.." I replied.

"Oh. Cool. So no one asked you yet?" Reese asked.

"Yeah people probably already have dates and don't wanna go with me but I don't really care if I don't go." I sAid.

"Don't lie to yourself, I'm suree some guys would wanna go with you. They probably think someone already asked you." Reese said.

"Doubt it but could be a possibility." I sAid .

"So how did you ask Melanie ?" I asked.

"Oh well I didn't exactly prompose to her yet. " Reese said.

I gasped as a joke.

"Wow. Did not think you'd wait that long to prompose !" I sAid.

"Yeah anyways.so how are things?" Reese asked.

"Oh things are alright. What about you? Are you the happiest you've ever been?" I asked.

"Haha umm I don't know. I guess I'm alright."  Reese replied.

I kinda stared at him and smiled.
Shit. I keep getting drawn to him.

I kinda looked away.

"Everything okay?" Reese asked.

"Yeah everything's all good.... man where is Melanie with her drinks ..?" I sAid.

"I don't know. Maybe she's getting you a drink as wel." Reese said.

"Hey I never told you this . Because I never see you. But my mom recently told me she wanted to apologize for that dinner thing that happened months ago." Reese said.

"Huh. Oh yeah . It's fine... I'm completely fine." I sAid lying. It was awkward for me to just talk about that.

"Oh okay. Well if anything it was best she apologize ." Reese said.

"Yeah no it's fine . " I sAid as I awkwardly looked away.

"Hey. My mom was immature for that. You don't need to feel like you have to forgive her." Reese said.

"Well if it weren't for that night, you wouldn't be back with Melanie . And I'm sure Melanie makes you really happy ." I sAid.

"Is this sarcasm?." Reese asked.

"Look. You're happy right? She's the one right.  ." I sAid.

"I guess.." Reese said.

"Then that's great." I sAid.

"What about you? " Reese asked.

Melanie was about to open the door.

"What about me? Well there's this guy  I really like but he definitely is happy with how things are and really likes his girlfriend. " I sAid sAid quietly.

"Are you serious ?" Reese asked.

"Sorry I took kinda long. I couldn't find ice." Melanie said .

"That's fine. I was just actually about to head back inside. Have a good night. Both of u." I sAid.

I walked inside. I saw Caroline talking to Kayden. He didnt seem uninterested surprisingly. I could hear Zac still downstairs playing beer pong. As I walked past Caroline and Kayden , Kayden stopped me.

"Oh hey.... Scarlett ..... you know Caroline's been talking to me about prom ..... for the past 30 minutes " Kayden said in a help me plz voice .

"Oh wow ... sucks ." I sAid.

"Oh shut up. " Caroline said to me.

"Alright then.. " I sAid.

"I'm gonna get another drink. Want one Kayden ?" Caroline asked Kayden .

"Uh sure." He replied.
She left .

"So as I walked by the window I noticed you talking to Reece. " Kayden said.

"Oh- Ywah I was talking to him."I replied. Did not know he saw us talking.....

"Do you still like him...?" Kayden asked.

"What?... no that's old news....." I sAid.

"I mean we're not dating to begin with but like it seems like I can sense something with you two.."Kayden said.

"Him and I are just friends. Trust me. He's absolutely in love with some other girl okay." I sAid.

"Oh cool.." Kayden said.

"Hey umm I think I'm gonna head back to campus ..." I sAid.

"Hey I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought Reece up. Was pretty childish on my end." Kayden said.

I didn't say anything.
