With the party almost ending, James decided to go to the rooftop of his dormitory. "Hey. Your party is down there. What are you doing here?" Michelle asked. "Oh! Hey Michelle. I just wanted to look at the sky." James explained. "Can I ask you something?" Michelle inquired. "Why didn't you spend your birthday with your family? I'm sure they will be glad to see you." Michelle added. While looking at the stars, James said, "I know they will. It's just that, I don't want them to see me like this." Puzzled, Michelle asked, "You don't want to go home without a girlfriend?" "No!" James exclaimed. "I don't want to go home with a problem. I miss my family, but, I don't want to make them worry about me because they can see that I have a problem." Their conversation went on for the rest of the evening. They had all topics to talk about. Before they realized it, it was already getting late. "I should probably go home." Michelle said. "It's late. Let me call your mom. You can stay here at the dorm." James insisted. After making the call, James went down with Michelle. "Hey, Patrice. Can Michelle sleep with you tonight? It's getting late and it's too dangerous to go out at this time." "Yeah, sure!" Patrice said excitedly. "They're all sleeping here anyway, so, let's have a slumber party!" Patrice added.
Early the next day, James drove Michelle to her house. "You should go in for a coffee and breakfast." Michelle said insistently. "Is it alright? Wouldn't they be furious to see you with a guy? And an older guy at that!" James said with a bit of concern. "Come on! Don't be shy. My family is good with company." Michelle said excitedly.
As he went inside Michelle's house, James cannot shake the feeling that he was being pierced by the sharp looks of Michelle's family. He met her parents and Michelle's older sister, Jenny, and the youngest, Kirby. In the dining room, James still can't shake off the feeling he had when he entered Michelle's house. "So, James. Are you an Engineering student as well?" Michelle's father asked. "No, sir. I'm taking up Psychology." "Is that a personal choice? Or your parents'?" "Personal, sir. I really wanted to become a Psychologist." James said with confidence. Michelle's sister interrupted, "So where did you meet my sister?" James responded quickly, "IN school. We were introduced by a common friend." "Do you have girlfriend, James?" Jenny suddenly asked. "Jenny!" Michelle shouted. "I'm sorry about that James." She added. "Don't change the subject, Michelle. So?" Jenny asked with more conviction. "Don't worry about it. Girlfriend? No." James answered calmly. "See? He doesn't mind." Jenny said. The interview went on the whole time they were having breakfast.
"I have to go. Thank you for thebreakfast." James said. "Don't mention it. Drive safe. And go home. Your familymisses you." Michelle said in a concerned voice. James responded, "Thank you.I'll do that." With breakfast over and James driving away, both of them had asmile on their faces that started their day just the way they want it to
