"What do you mean?" He asked automatically snapping his eyes back up to me, while furrowing his brows together. "This was no accident." I stated bringing my eyes up to him. "Somebody intended to do this to me, and somebody intended to give me a concussion- well kind of." I said rushing everything out. Right before detective Jacobs was about to ask me something, the door flung open and angry eyes met mine. "It was her, wasn't it?" He spat, venom interlacing his voice. "Ry, now's not a good time." I said slowly. "No, Effy, just stop. It's not okay, this is not okay." He stated while walking towards me. "Ryder. Leave." I stated my voice shaky. "No." He said again. "Sir, this is a closed investigation, you need to leave. "There's nothing left to investigate! She did this to her on purpose!" Ryder exclaimed while throwing his hands up in the air, getting extremely pissed."Sir, I understand you're upset." The detective started but Ryder cut him off. "Upset?" He laughed dryly and not in a humorous way. "I'm pissed." He said again, like I had just thought. "Bethany Harpick had done this to her. She's been antagonizing Effy for god knows how long." He shouted while gesturing towards me. I just bowed my head lowly before I whispered, "Ryder. You should leave. You're not supposed to be in here." "I'm not leaving. I'm here to help you." He stated coming closer to my bed than before. Now, this pissed me off. "I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP! I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH BETH FOR TWO YEARS NOW!" I shouted enraged, while standing up to face Ryder, who was a lot taller than me. I was only 5'2, while he stood at a height of 6'4. "And look where that's landed you." He shouted back while gesturing towards the room around me. My face dropped- I felt it, so I just decided to not speak. "Yeah." He said while nodding and leaving the room. I sat on the bed and felt a silent tear roll down my face. I quickly wiped it away and detective Jacobs watched intently with wandering eyes. "Shall we continue?" He asked after a clear of his throat. I nodded and he had picked up where we had left off. "So, I assume this, Bethany Harpick? Is the cause of the problem?" He asked waiting for me to correct any errors in his hypothesis and a little bit of Ry's knowledge. I nodded my head with a quiet, "yes sir." He nodded and asked another question. "What exactly happened?" He asked again and I took a sharp in take of breath preparing for the story. I told him everything and he jotted down a few notes trying to get to the bottom of this. When I had finished, he looked up at me with a sorrowful smile. And he sighed. "Now, you said she kept chanting things like you being a 'murderer'?" He asked and I nodded. Preparing myself for his next question. "Okay." Was all he said before he clamped his notebook shut and stood up. "Okay?" I repeated and he nodded. "Yes, ma'am. I'll be doing some more investigating, and I'll be bringing Bethany in." He stated before approaching me for a handshake. "Elizabeth." He said with a nod and I clasped my hand in his and shook it with a small smile. He returned it with a shaky one. "Could, you please get me a nurse?" I asked feeling the painkillers wear off. "Oh, yes, is everything alright?" He asked worriedly. "Yeah, just a little pain here and there, but I'll survive." I said with a small smile and he nodded in understanding. He was approaching the door before I stopped him again. "Oh, and would you mind sending in my." I started but he cut me off. "Boyfriend?" He finished and my face dropped realizing he was referring to Ryder. "No, he's not my boyfriend, and I was going to say my mother." I said politely and finishing with a small smile. "Sorry." he mumbled but nodded after. "Thank you." I muttered and he left. My mother and brother came in followed behind a nurse. "Hi." I smiled weakly. It was clear that there were tears evident in my mother and brother's eyes. They beamed at me. "Hey, lil sis." My brother whispered and I cupped the croak of his neck pulling him into a small hug, trying not to hurt myself. He pulled away and a tear slid down his face. "Don't cry." I cooed placing a small kiss on his cheek. "Yeah, yeah." He said with a dismissing hand and I smiled at him. How much I appreciate and love him. "I love you." I reminded him. "I know, and I love you for that, baby sis." I smiled at his words and looked at my mother who was taking in our relationship. I smiled at her, "Hi, mommy." I said and she came crashing into me, carefully. We both had tears rolling down our faces when we parted. "Don't cry, baby, you're okay." She said while wiping away my tears. "i know." I said while offering a small smile. I didn't feel like smiling. I didn't feel anything. I didn't want to. "We thought we were going to lose you." She said with more and more tears. "Shhh." I cooed. "I'm here. I'm okay." I said pulling my mom into me again. The nurse just watched us carefully. I swore I saw her tear up a bit. Leave it up to my brother to ruin the moment. "Well, this got real serious, too fast. I'm going to the cafeteria." He said and there were light chuckles. He saluted and left the room. "I'm going to adjust your IV. It may hurt." The nurse stated before moving around the needle in my arm- and let me say; a little pain would be an understatement! It stung really bad. I let a few tears burn the brim of my eyes. I felt weak all I did anymore was cry. "He's out there you know." My mother said softly nudging to the hall with her head. "Who?" I questioned. "Ryder." She stated and I tensed. "Oh." Was the only thing I muttered out. "Oh? That's it?" She asked scrunching up her eyebrows. "I don't want to see him." I said shrugging. "Really?" She asked with a face that told me she didn't believe a word I said. "I don't want him to know." I said with a sigh. It was my mother's turn to mutter an 'oh'. "Yeah." I said looking at the door. "Consider talking to him." Was all my mother whispered before kissing my forehead and leaving the room. I sighed, a big sigh and turned to look at the nurse, who just shrug and smiled softly while handing me two painkillers. I took them in one hand in cup of water in the other. "Thanks." I said before gulping down the pills. The nurse nodded and left the room. I laid down settling into my 'bed.' I honestly just wanted to go home now. I had my eyes closed when I heard the door open and soft footsteps approach. "Effy." They whispered grabbing my hand in their's. "No." I said before pulling my hand back. "Eff, please, talk to me." He pleaded. "Ryder, I'm not in a talking mood. Please leave." I stated before attempting to turn on my side but winced at the pain that came from my ribs. "Effy, stop moving. Stop trying to get away from me. Stop arguing and just let me take care of you." He said again softly. I opened my eyes and sat up a little studying his eyes. I narrowed mine before speaking. "Since when have you ever cared about me?" I spat not really wanting an answer. "I always have, Effy." He said again a little hurt in his voice. "No. You haven't. Let's see. You started caring about me about three days ago. You didn't know me. You don't know what I've been through, and you certainly won't." I stated getting angrier more by his presence. "You can say a lot of things, Effy, but you can't tell me how I feel towards you." He said standing up from his chair. "I don't need to know how you feel to have been able to know that you don't care about many people. I also happen to know that you can't possible know how you feel about someone you don't even know." I stated calming down a little bit. "Then let me know you." He said approaching me again. When I ignored him, he took his chance to speak again. "Tell me who he is. Who Beth brought up." He said and my eyes automatically snapped up to see his serious face. Great he knew. Now I need to tell him. But I don't want to. What if he blames me too? What would I do? I can't. I won't. But I need to..
