**NOT EDITED LIKE BEFORE; BEWARE OF MISTAKES. WILL FIX LATER**
"Who is he?" Ry repeated after I had not responded. "Who is who..?" I asked avoiding the question. "Is he your boyfriend..?" He asked kind of.. disappointed? No, why would he be disappointed. I sighed a big sigh knowing I needed to tell him. I sat up onto the bed with a little wince. It wasn't that noticeable but once I was fully up in a sitting position, I patted the spot next to me and Ryder gratefully made his way to sit down. "His name was Logan." I said sighing feeling the pain come from what I'm about to tell him. "Was.?" Ryder questioned more so to himself. I nodded anyways. "Let me finish." I said with a light chuckle and Ryder smiled a small smile. I quickly dropped my smile and frowned. After I didn't continue Ryder placed his hand on my thigh in a sympathetic way before speaking. "Effy, I promise that no matter what you say won't make me change my mind about you." He said which kind of infuriated me for an unknown reason. "How do you know. What if you think differently of me; lower. We've just now started talking recently. Ryder I've known you my whole life and you just start talking to me now. It's strange." I said standing up and pacing around the hospital room. Ryder just stares at me in amusement. "Effy, I have noticed you before, but you were so different. You were- no, you are so hard to approach. You're like a tiger. So precious to look at but as soon as you're approached, that person gets their limbs torn apart." Ryder said in a serious tone. I smiled a little at being compared to a tiger. "I know your reputation." I started and Ryder cut me off. He approached me while speaking, "it took me 8 years to finally become at least an acquaintance to you, I won't ruin it now." He said stopping right in front of me. And for some reason the shy part of me decided to be overrun by the part of me I was hoping never would come out. "I'm afraid you won't look at me the same. And that alone, scares the hell out of me." I said in a low voice looking at the ground when I started, but finished looking into his mesmerizing eyes. "I'm afraid that will never happen. I'll fight and defend for you no matter what." He finished looking back at me. I grabbed his hand in mine and led him back to the hospital bed. I sat across from him before I proceeded to tell him. "He was my everything." I said in a low voice looking at my hands. I looked back up to see if Ryder was paying attention, and he had this emotion in his eyes I'd never seen before and it worried me. I continued anyway. "He was older than Liam and I, 3 years older than me, 2 older than Liam." I started but instantly didn't want to continue. Ryder gripped my hand tighter and I let out a shaky breath. "Logan was my brother, my best friend, we were inseparable. I told him everything." I let a tear fall from my watery eyes. I didn't even bother to wipe it away. "He was always happy, he never upset mom, I wished that I could be just like him." "What happened?" Ryder asked in a low voice. "I did." I said while loosing everything I had left. I brought my hands up to wipe my tears away to continue explaining what happened. "You don't have to tell me." Ryder protested. "I want to." I said bringing my eyes to his soft one's. It was my birthday and Logan was upset he didn't get me anything. He insisted we went to go see our favorite band playing in town. Our parents would never agree to it since I had school the next day. Logan being Logan, insisted we go. We snuck out that night and went. It was the best thing that's ever happened to me." I explained with a sad smile then it shortly faded to a frown and a few tears slipped out. "We were driving home, radio blaring to the new c.d we just got from one of the band members at the concert. Logan didn't see the truck coming. Once I noticed it, it was too late. Logan swerved quickly into the other lane, the truck hit his side of the car. The car had flipped, and I managed to land on the outside of the car, my brother however, he didn't get lucky." I started not knowing if I could finish. Ryder stroked my cheek to remove the salty water. "I watched the paramedics remove my brother from the car, pounding on his chest to get him breathing regularly. I watched my brother die. It was my fault he died." I finished, burying my face into my hands. I felt so weak. I just wanted him to be here with me. "I- I didn't know." Ryder said stroking my hair. "It's fine, not a lot of people did." I said with a dismissive hand. "It's not your fault. Any of it." He cooed. "It feels like it. It was my birthday present. Do you know how hard it is to celebrate my birthday, then have to grieve over my brothers death the next day?" I asked not really looking for an answer. "My parents divorced because of it. It was all my fault. If only I would have said something earlier, he would have been here. If it were me instead, everything would be okay." I said looking out the hospital window. "Don't talk like that." Ryder said while placing his thumb and index finger under my chin to get me to look at him. I closed my eyes and a few tears slid down my face but were brushed away with one swift movement from Ryder. "I'm sure you heard 'I'm sorry' one too many times, so I'm not going to say that. Instead, I'm going to tell you how strong and independent you are. It's not easy, I know, and it won't be, but know that it was not your fault. None of it." He said while never moving his fingers from under my chin. And then he did the next thing I would have never expected. Ryder White pulled me into his grasp and just let me cry on his shoulder. And that's what I did. I blubbered like a baby until I felt better. And Ryder sat there stroking the back of my hair in a soothing way. We broke away, and he did the next thing that took me by surprise. He laid us down on my surprisingly small hospital bed. When did this thing get so small? I thought to myself. Ryder laid on his side, which was propped by his elbow, while he played with my hair. I was kind of uncomfortable by his sudden interest in my hair. "Wow, two acts of kindness in one day?" I joked and he busted out into a roar of laughter and I smiled at him and his childish ways. "For you, of course." He said with that smirk of his and a wink. I rolled my eyes at him, but kept a smile on my face. "I want food." I complained after a long while of silence. Ryder looked at me before bursting out into laughter again. "Whaat?" I pouted. "You're always hungry." He said while lightly chuckling still. "True, true." I state before groaning again. "I want to go home." I complain again. "You complain a lot." Ryder states. "And you're annoying." I tease with a smirk. "Says the one who complains every five seconds." Ryder exclaims while throwing his hands in the air and I can't help but to laugh at him. "But seriously why are you in a hurry to leave?" He asks me becoming serious again. "Why don't you?" I question while scrunching up my eyebrows. "I don't quite know to be honest." He says with amusement in his voice. I laugh at him and groan at the pain which he caused. I narrow my eyes at him. "What?" He laughs. "You did this to me. You made me laugh and now you made my sides hurt." I grumbled to him. "Oh boohoo Miss. I complain too much." He said in a joking matter before getting up and walking over to a draw. I scrunch my eyebrows up in confusion. Again. "Whatcha doing?" I ask in a high pitched little kid voice. "Hold on." He says while putting up a hand, earning me to pout. He walked back over to me and held his hand out urging me to take whatever it is he has. "Go on." He says motioning to my hand. I hold my hand out hesitantly and he places something in my palm. "Pills?" I ask him. "Painkillers." He says leaving to go to the faucet on the other side of the room. He handed me the cup full of water and I took it in my hand. "Doc, are you sure about this?" I ask in a jokingly manner. "Ma'am, I could never be more sure." He said in a serious tone. I smiled at him and brought the pills to my mouth, gulping down the water after. "Now, the side effects." He started and my eyes bulged. "They may include, swelling, stinging, internal bleeding-" "INTERNAL BLEEDING?!" I yelled, cutting him off. He nodded his head, "yes ma'am." Was followed after that and I started choking on the air. "You, my friend, would be a terrible doctor." I say after I catch my breath again and Ryder finds this funny for some reason. "Shut your trap." I grumble laying back down again. Ryder laughs and comes back next to me on the bed. "Uhm, did I invite you?" I ask in a snobby joking voice. "Yup." He replies laying down too. "uh, I don't recall, but okay." I say and he chuckles slightly. "I'm bored and still hungry." I complain again after awhile. "Quit complaining you'll be able to go home in a day or two, and you'll be returning to school in about four or five." Ryder says with a dismiss of his hand. "The hell I'm not." I state crossing my arms and this earns Ryder to sit up and look at me with amusement in his eyes. "What do you mean?" He smirks. "I mean, I'm not going back to that hell hole you people call a school. " I state pointing my nose up in the air like a snobby brat. "Well, firstly, what are you going to do about your future? And secondly, 'you people?'" Ryder asks with his eyebrow propped up and I ignored it. "As far as my future it doesn't involve hell." I state using 'hell' to reference school. "And yes, you people, as in the people who actually put up with school, because they aren't physically or mentally harmed everything single goddamn day." I say back and instantly Ryder's expression softens. "I'm joking, don't feel pity for me." I say right before he says something and he smirks. "So what is your future, if it doesn't involve school?" He asks amused again. "Well, you see, I'm going to drop out as soon as I'm released from this hospital, then I'm going to Detroit, to meet a drug dealer named Alejandro, agree to work with him and sell his crack for a living." I say with a large grin at the end and he throws his head back laughing and I smile at how cute he looks right now. "Really?" He asks after he's calmed down after a little. "Really." I state with a smirk and he just stares at me, eyes sparkling. "So, how about a favor?" I asked with a smirk. He rolled his eyes and asked me what I wanted. "Sneak me out?" I asked with pleading eyes and puppy dog eyes. "What, are you crazy?" He asked me sitting up off the bed. "Pleasssee!" I begged. "No." "Pleeaasee?" I begged again this time with a lip pout. He looked at me before narrowing his eyes. "Why?" He asked me crossing his arms. "Food." I smiled at him. "There's a cafeteria here?" He questioned. "But I need to get out of here! I'm gonna go crazy!" I yell like a madman. "Plus, I want McDonald's." I added with a smirk and Ryder dropped his arms to his sides. "Fine, but we'll need a plan." He said and this caused me to grin. "Oh, but I already have one." I state with an evil glint in my eyes. Ryder gives me a confused expression and I gesture for him to follow. Since my mom had gone home, I don't need to worry about her guarding my door. Plus it's night so a lot of the doctors and nurses are tired and unaware. Perfect timing to be honest. I waggle my hand back and forth to inform Ryder to follow me. We run out of the room and down the hall. There's a doctor coming our way and I panic. I push Ryder into an empty dark room. Correction an empty, dark small room. So here I stand hands on Ryder's chest pressed against him with absolute no room between the two of us. I slowly look up to Ryder's face to see him looking down at me with a smirk. I flash him a quick smile and small huff before i glance back down to the floor. He opens the door a little and whispers something into my ear. "It's clear now." And that was enough to send shivers down my spine, shivers I did not want. Not going to lie though, they weren't bad and they didn't make me feel uncomfortable. I nodded and stepped back, then out of the closet and back down the hall. Ryder was leading the way now and he quickly turned a corner into a room. It was just the room I needed. I smirked at him before handing him a coat. "So doc, how would you like to be in more of uniform?" I smirked referencing to our earlier conversation. Ryder turned around to see me holding a lab coat in front of him. "Genius." He whispered before taking the lab coat with a smile. "Why thank you, doctor-" I paused to look at the name tag. " Flemming. Well, ain't that a wonderful last name?" I asked with a light giggle and Ryder gave me a stern look. "No laughing at my last name, Missy." He said with a finger pointed at me. I threw my hands up in defense. "Yes, sir." I mumbled and he smirked. I walked away from the small rack of lab coats and examined the room. Something to use. Something that's handy. Something. Anything. But what? I thought to myself before Ryder's voice boomed through my thoughts. "I'm sorry but you're gonna have to die." He said with a smirk and I scrunched my eyebrows up in confusion. He stepped aside and gestured to something behind him. "Genius." I copied Ryder's words and climbed up onto the stretcher. "Why, thank you." He bowed and I laughed at him while I laid down on the bed. Ryder picked up the white cloth and brought it up over my face. "Sorry." He whispered and then everything went black. "Why are you sorry?" I asked with a slight giggle. "Shush, you're dead. Dead people don't talk." He said with a smirk, most likely. "Well, I do." I said with a laugh. He laughed along with me for a little. "Okay, I'm leaving the room now, try not to be too loud." He said in a joking matter and I rolled my eyes at him knowing he can't see me. I think he was jogging or sprinting down the halls. He kept turning really quickly which kind of made me fear for my life. I grasped onto the sides of the stretcher praying we were almost done. THUMP! "Ouch." I groaned and Ryder mumbled a quick 'sorry.' Yup there is no way in hell I'm doing that again. The bed finally came to a stop and the white cloth was ripped from my head. "Thanks." I mumbled with narrowed eyes. "I said sorry!" He exclaimed. "Yeah, yeah." I dismissed with a wave of my hand. He chuckled a bit and led me to his car. A short five minutes later we pulled up to a McDonald's drive-thru. Me being me, ordered chicken nuggets, a medium fry and a medium coke. If there's one thing to know about me is that I love me some french fries and coke. It's the best thing in the world. Ryder had ordered the same thing and once we paid and got our food I opened the bag and popped a fry into my mouth. "Thank you." I said after I had finished the delicious fry. "You're welcome." He said with a smile and popping a fry into his mouth too.
