The ride back to the loft was pretty solemn. I was alone and didn't want to be. I also had a lot to think about, like how today had been pretty unexpected. Who would've guessed I would spend pretty much an entire day with Charlotte Bixby?
She was everything I imagined she'd be, well, besides straight.
My heart sunk at the thought of her and her ex boyfriend. I still couldn't muster up the strength to picture her as just a friend. From the moment I saw her singing at Sidewalk, I felt a gravitational pull. She was like a ray of pure humanity, if that even makes sense.
I guess none of it really mattered now, considering she had just friend zoned me. I'm sure she saw a disappointed look on my face when she first mentioned her ex. There was no way I could've hidden that.
Now I was left questioning everything. Like, why did fate lead me into an Uber with her? Why did I, the ultimate introvert, ask her to go on a 'little adventure'? And why would she agree? Maybe I was giving off friendship vibes.... no, I knew I wasn't. All those times she caught me staring at her, she knew I was interested as more than a friend. So why would she come to the art show, unless there's a part of her that likes me as well?
My frenzy of thoughts was cut short by the taxi driver demanding his money. After paying him, I buzzed up to the loft and Phineous let me in.
He looked like a pissed off mother when the door swung open, "Where have you been young lady?"
I wanted to laugh at the fact that he was wearing nothing but a satin floral robe, but my thoughts were way to chaotic. I pushed my way into the loft and took off my converse, "I took Charlotte to Southwick Beach."
He shut the door and let his mouth hang open, "Well then why do you look like aliens took your best friend?"
Now I had to laugh, "I wouldn't be sad if aliens took you Phin, I'd be honored."
He gasped before grabbing two green teas from the fridge and flopping down on the couch. "As much as I want to talk about aliens with you, I have to know about tonight."
I sat beside him and cracked open the green tea, "What would you like to know?"
He rolled his eyes, "Come on Tal, be serious."
I rested my head on the back of the couch and turned it slightly to look at my friend. "You know what? Maybe I shouldn't tell you about tonight because, you sure didn't tell me about Tristen."
Now his green eyes grew in size, "That's because it's nothing serious."
"Fuck off! I saw the way you two stared at each other all starry eyed."
Now his cheeks were turning a rosy pink, "Fine, I like him. I was going to tell you, once we made things official."
Now I sat up, "That's not what best friends do Phin, we don't wait until we're officially dating someone to tell each other!"
"Grr! Fine Tal, I'm sorry!" He made a pouty face and sat back.
"Now, you want to know about tonight?" I teased.
"Depends, are you going to chew me out again?"
I shrugged, "She's straight."
"What?!" He stood up completely, causing the robe to open, which revealed his tighty whitey's.
I could only laugh, "you heard me."
"No, no, no," he repeated in a whisper, "Trust me Talia, my gaydar was overloading when I was near you two."
"Maybe it was from me, you know... being super gay and horny."
He laughed before sitting back on the couch, "No, although I'm glad you're admitting you're batshit horny. Charlotte is into you, I sensed it."
