Coming Together

It was Friday and I was headed into the label for class. My mood was higher than it had honestly ever been, ever since Charlotte and I had fixed things between us. As I pressed the number five button on the elevator, I couldn't help but reminisce about that night, about the passionate kiss we shared, and all the hopelessly romantic stuff that we talked about. Certainly my cheeks were fire hydrant red right now, but I didn't even care because there was most definitely a fire blazing in my heart. Just the way we were together - like, how we could talk about the most random things and not get bored, or how we'd share playlists and spend hours talking about everything musical. It was unlike any relationship I had ever been in and we weren't even a thing.

As I thought about she and I getting serious, my throat tightened. I wanted it, of course, but I also knew that it was going to be extremely complicated. If I decided to drop of out of law school and move to New York, I would lose so much. Namely, my parents' love and respect. They'd disown me without a second thought, and I didn't know how to deal with that truth. Honestly, it was the only thing that had kept me from chasing my real dreams for years. Simply knowing that I'd lose their acceptance. Thankfully, I had never really had something urgent to chase in New York. There was Phineous, of course... but he understood my circumstances and the distance wouldn't ever come between our friendship. Things were different now though, with Charlotte. She wanted me to stay, so that we could try to be something more. Hearing her tell me that she wanted me to stay, literally never got old. Actually, every time she said it, it made me want to drop everything in Indiana that instant. I was more mature than that though, it wouldn't be as easy as just pretending like I was never a student that went to Perdue. I would have to have a serious conversation with my parents, to explain my decision. They at least deserves that.

I had subconsciously walked right to my classroom and just as I had expected, Adam was inside fiddling with one of the electric guitars. His blue eyes looked up from the strings when I entered the room.

"Good morning," I said.

I hadn't expected him to smile, but he did, "Morning."

As I walked towards my desk, I continued talking, "Learning guitar?"

"I-Uh, yeah," he ran his chipped painted fingers through his hair, "Actually, Julia's helping me on our off days after school."

I was almost certain that this was the most talkative Adam had ever been with me. Maybe the whole 'group project' thing was working. "That's awesome, I'm happy you guys are working together."

He just nodded and continued to practice some fingerpicking. It was so amusing to see him fumble over every other pick, but I knew first hand that it would take years of practice. Thankfully, I knew from Julia's SoundCloud account that she was a pretty talented guitarist.

As if thinking about her has summoned her presence, the red head walked through the doors. She was about ten minutes earlier than usual and I wondered if Adam told her to come early. Not that it mattered to me, as long as they behaved. Oh god, I was sounding so much like a teacher.

"Hi, Julia." I spoke while plugging in my laptop.

"Hey Talia," she was wearing camo pants and a black tank top, her eyeballs outlined with that familiar black liner. She placed her bag down in her seat before coming up to Adam by the guitars and grabbing one for herself. It was a sparkly neon green color and as she lifted the strap over her head, I knew she was about to blow Adam and I away. The look in Adams usually melancholy eyes was instead full of admiration and maybe a little... lust? I smiled as I watched her begin playing the chords to Led Zeppelin. Her transitions were smooth and she even added in some of her own surprises. The rest of the class entered the room and they all just stood around Julia, their eyes full of amazement.
