Nothing serious

I've never been good at morning afters. They're awkward and a little cruel. Especially when you'd actually like to keep the person in your life. Like, how do you even start that conversation?

"Good morning," my thoughts were trimmed by Riley's voice. She was leaning on her arm, looking at me with a little smile. Her messy black hair flying in different directions and her upper body slightly exposed. The look on her face was adorable, but I still felt like I wanted to escape. To get from underneath her covers and out of her apartment.

"Morning," I rolled over a little so that I could get a better look at her, "I'm sorry I stayed the night."

She brought her hand to my forehead and brushed some hair away from my eyes, "Don't apologize, it was fine. How'd you sleep?"

Why did she have to be so sweet, I thought for sure that we were on the same page! This was supposed to be a one time fling, you know, a wham bam thank you ma'am!

"I slept great," I tried to sound sincere as I slowly lifted into a seated position. My left hand used a piece of the blankets to cover my naked body, while my other hand searched the bed for my missing bra.

She didn't move at first, obviously catching on to my distant vibe. Then without saying anything, she stood from the bed dressed in nothing but her birthday suit. I stopped searching for my bra to watch her as she opened one of her drawers and pulled out two night shirts. She slipped one over her head and I felt my cheeks warm up, she was just so confident.

"Here, you can take this," she handed me the shirt before turning back around to her drawer and pulling out some yoga capris, "and if you're trying to run away, you can also take these."

I grabbed the capris from her while holding eye contact, she knew I was wanting to leave and I felt really bad about it. "I, I'm sorry Riley -"

She cut me off, "No, you don't have to apologize. Trust me, I usually don't let women stay the night."

"But you, you let me." My words were soft, but curious.

Her shoulders rose and caused the AC/DC band shirt to lift a little, "I don't know why, I guess... you're just different Talia." Now I knew that I was blushing because she had that stupid smirk on her face. The red on my cheeks seemed to boost her confidence, "would you like some coffee?"

I slipped the plain gray shirt over my head, contemplating whether or not I should stay any longer than I already had. My heart and mind were so confused, both wanting several different things. I decided that I did like Riley, even if it wasn't in the way she possibly wanted. The sex was great, she was kind and beautiful. I wanted her in my life, and hopefully she'd still want to be in mine as a friend.

"Yeah, coffee sounds good."

I couldn't stay at Riley's for long. I had an appointment at JDRecords with Allison in just under two hours.

Before I left her apartment, we enjoyed a cup of coffee and talked about what we had planned for the day. She told me that she'd probably spend the entire day in the court house. Some of her clients that she represented had a bunch of legal proceedings to get through.

Then I went on to talk about my meeting with Allison. It was nice to discuss it with someone other than Phineous, someone who would listen but wasn't equipped with enough of my history to judge.

It was odd how we left things. We exchanged numbers and neither of us brought up the sex or what was next for us. I was somewhat grateful, but I also felt shitty.
