Night Sky

Far from home,
out in the woods,
hunting and gathering -

many nights spent under
the dark roof of a clear sky,
the cold wind blowing into your face,
wrapped in your cloak.

Their light reflects in your eyes
as you gaze and marvel at them
through the leafy branches
rustling calmly in the night.

As you gaze and marvel at them,
can you feel the vastness around?
Can you see the greatness of this universe?
Do you feel less lonely?

Sleep, weary soul, the stars are guarding you,
but fear a dark and starless night.
