Running

Quickly my feet run,
barely touching the ground.
I still feel the cold on my bare feet,
the rich earth beneath me,
the smell of pines and rain,
the mud on my feet,
splashing all the way up my calves
and onto my torn skirt.

I run to freedom
as I smell the forest,
running back to Mother Nature.
