Violet stirred awake at the sound of shouts and movement coming from the hallway.
"Murph." She whispered as she climbed halfway up the ladder, she shook him, trying to wake him up. "Murph get up! Do you hear that?" She asked concerned by this abnormality.
"All I hear is your stupid ass waking me up before breakfast." He stated shoving her face gently but hard enough to make her lose her balance and fall off the ladder. Murphy shot up as soon as he realized what he'd done. "Kane woah! Are you okay?" He asked climbing down.
"I'm fine" She laughed standing up. "I'm glad you're up now though, do you hear-" She began but was cut off by Evan and two other guards that Violet had forgotten the names of swinging the door open.
"Prisoners 267 and 257 stand and face the wall," Evan stated placing a black box on Violet's bed.
"Bennett the fuck is this?" She asked in a pissed-off tone, trying her hardest not to reveal her extreme panic.
"Kane. Face the wall." He stated bluntly as the guards behind him pulled out their shock batons. Her stomach sank in that moment and both of them did as they were told.
Evan opened up the case which revealed multiple metal bands. He grabbed one "Hold out your right arms." He ordered.
The cellmates once again did as they were told. Evan clamped one on Murphy's wrist first.
"Fuck." He mumbled as he gripped the band examining it.
Evan then grabbed another one and clapped it on Violet's wrist. She had the same reaction, feeling a few sharp stinging pricks in her wrist.
"Take them to the drop ship." Evan ordered the two guards.
"Evan-- a drop ship? What is this?" Violet asked, now officially panicked. Evan swallowed hard clearly concerned about the situation.
"We're sending the prisoners to the ground. I'm sorry." He said as he looked down and Violet's frightened eyes. She searched his eyes for a second, grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him into a weak kiss. He pulled away quickly unable to look at her "I said take them." He stated sternly.
Murphy and Violet were taken from the cell to a lineup of prisoners and left by the guards.
"What'd you get?" Murphy whispered. Oh, how he knew her so well.
She turned to him quickly and flashed a handgun tucked inside her jacket. She had stolen it from Evan while giving him that half-assed kiss.
"Damn you're good." He laughed as they shuffled down the hall to the drop ship.
Around the final corner, Abigail Griffin and Marcus Kane stood watching the prisoners move toward their unconformable deaths. Violet sent her Father a deadly glare and nothing but guilt filled his body.
"Letty-" He said reaching his hand out.
"Don't." She shouted avoiding him. Murphy moved an arm in between them and shook his head at her father. He sighed defeated and placed his hands over his face as he took his place next to Abby again.
Violet watched as one of her fellow council kids, Clarke Griffin, was taken into the drop ship while passed out on a stretcher. Violet reached the end of the line and waited for a guard to escort her to a seat. "Damn I wish I got that kind of ride-" She began with Murphy but was cut off by a guard grabbing her on his way down the hall and into the drop ship rather harshly.
He brought her to the left corner of the first level, buckled her into the second furthest seat from the entrance and then sat in the furthest seat buckling himself in. His foot tapped impatiently and his breathing was unsteady. Violet didn't remove her eyes from this strange guard, his slick black hair gave him a sophisticated look but his freckles and young complexity threw it off a little. He could feel her eyes digging into him and shot his head her way, taking in her image with his deep brown eyes.
"What the hell are you staring at?" He grumbled linking eyes with her.
"The guard whom has a death wish by suspiciously joining the drop ship going to radiation soaked earth." She shot.
"Well quit it." He shot back, breaking eye contact.
"Tell me why you're here." She pressed. "Or should I shout for a guard?" She threatened with a smirk.
"I got an offer from someone, to be able to sneak in here with a uniform, I'm just here trying to protect my sister." He muttered.
"...Bellamy Blake?" Violet asked remembering a guy who had a sister that was hidden for almost 16 years. He had gotten kicked from the cadet group a level higher than her. "I remember when you got kicked from the guard."
"Yeah--- fun times." He sighed.
"Violet Kane." She stated understanding Bellamy would not ask who she was.
He clenched his jaw and swallowed hard before turning to her.
"Kane?" He replied piecing her identity together.
"Mhm"
"Nice to meet you. Can you shut up now?" He asked with a rather annoyed tone as a few delinquents sat next to Violet.
"Sure thing stowaway."
Violet turned to see who her seat neighbour would be and was met with a face she hadn't seen in a long time.
"Kane?" Miller shouted with excitement.
"Miller!!!" She shouted just as happily back. In that moment they would have hugged if they weren't strapped into their chairs.
"Oh my god! I got some stories for you!" He started "You remember that kid from Mecha that got caught for space walking well he and I were cell mates and boy he told me-" Miller began happily updating his best friend on his life but was cut off by the drop ship door sealing shut, the gravity of the Ark halting and Chancellor Jaha appearing on the screen above.
"Prisoners of The Ark, hear me now. You've been given a second chance, and as your Chancellor, it is my hope that you see this as not just a chance for you, but a chance for all of us, indeed for mankind itself. We have no idea what is waiting for you down there. If the odds of survival were better, we would've sent others. Frankly, we're sending you because your crimes have made you expendable." He announced.
"Wow expendable, that one stings." Violet comments earning a laugh from Miller and a small grin from Bellamy.
"Those crimes will be forgiven, your records wiped clean upon survival."
"I call bull shit on that Mr. Chancellor!" Miller shouts receiving cheers from the whole first level.
As much as Violet hated the Chancellor for floating her mother and plenty of her friend's parents she felt the need to listen to his message.
"The drop site has been chosen carefully. Before the last war, Mount Weather was a military base built within a mountain. It was to be stocked with enough non-perishables to sustain three hundred people for up to two years. Mount Weather is life. You must locate those supplies immediately. Your one responsibility is stay alive." He said before the video cut out and the drop ship began shaking uncontrollably.
"Stay alive huh? Shouldn't be that hard!" She remarked sarcastically as she gripped the armrests of her seat, overlapping hands with Bellamy. Heat radiated off the metal and for a moment that lasted way too long Violet thought she was going to die in this hundred-year-old ship. It all came to a sudden stop, complete and utter silence filled the room.
"Listen no machine hum." A voice stated from upstairs and the unbuckling of seat belts followed. Violet stood up pulling her best friend into a tight hug happily reunited. Bellamy shot up quickly and moved to the door.
She swiftly followed after him, watching as he took a place in front of the door lever. When the door was opened she'd either be killed by radiation or get her second chance.
