"I could've kicked that privileged kid's ass today, fucking spacewalker," Murphy mutters while sitting down on a log next to Violet.
"I'm one of those privileged kids and I'd like to see you try to take me on." Violet shot, Murphy laughed playfully shoving her.
"I always forget you're a privileged kid you never struck me as one, like you don't come off as one." He commented handing her some berries.
"My Mom came from factory station, she was a seamstress like most of the women there and just because she married someone 'important' never made her worth more than another, she raised me that way." She shrugged eating the berries.
"You don't talk about your Mom much--"
___
"Hopefully this will help you feel better." Natalie Kane whispered helping her daughter drink some medicine. She stroked the girls burning forehead. Violet coughed at the terrible-tasting medicine."Where'd you get it from?" Violet asked.
Her mother took in a sharp breath.
"Don't worry about that dear. If you must know Dr. Griffin decided it would be a good idea to
give you a second dose." She lied. Natalie stressed at the sight of her extremely unwell child."But is it illegal to give me a second dose?" Violet asked thinking about all the rules her father takes care of.
"Shhhh just sleep."
—
Violet finished her homework and threw herself onto the couch next to her mom who was reading."God I feel so much better." She said raising a smile on Natalie's face.
"That's good to hear Letty. Nat can I have a word." Marcus said from across the room.
"Of course hun," Natalie said walking into their bedroom with Marcus.
Violet could hear shouts coming from the room but only made out one sentence.
"You're forcing my hand, Nat! You broke the law!" Said her father before storming out.
Later that day guards showed up to their home and took Violet's mother to be floated, a memory that would haunt her for the rest of her life.
___
"My father turned her in, I forgave him for it eventually. But then he turned me in, I guess work meant more than family." Violet explained
"My dad got floated for stealing medicine for me." Murphy trailed off silently for a moment, probably thinking about his father. "I've lived with you for six months and I'm only now finding out we have our parent's death in common huh Kane," Murphy mumbled.
"Yeah," She replied quietly. She thought of her mother, her kind spirit, her beautiful smile, and her words of encouragement. She missed her mom. "I just don't like to think about it, or talk about it"
"That's fair, neither do I--- But if you ever do, you know-- uh, wanna talk about it, I'll always be here." He stated pulling her into a one-armed hug.
Violet smiled, Murphy was truly the best friend she could've asked for. Though no longer in the mood to reminisce about her old life she decided to make a suggestion.
"Let's head back to camp, I'm sure they could use some help."
Murphy nodded and they trekked back.
"Murphy! Kane! Get over here!" Mbege called from a distance as the two approached the dropship.
They changed their path to see what Mbege wanted, but Violet was stopped by a deep voice calling from the dropship.
"Kane." He shouted.
Violet turned to Murphy, "I'll be there in a second." She stated and Murphy nodded before she walked over to the dropship.
"What can I do for you?"
"Your buddy Murphy. Is he trustworthy?" Bellamy asked bluntly.
"Yeah, I mean I trust him."
"Alright." He said turning away.
"That's it?" Violet asked annoyed that all he wanted was intel on Murphy.
"Actually it's not," Bellamy said turning back around. "Miller, is he a good guy too?"
"Yes. The greatest." She said, unimpressed about being Bellamy's advisor.
"Okay, what about Mbege?"
"Listen Blake, what about you grow a pair and talk to them yourself alright? Why are you even asking?"
"Someone has to help me run things, I think they're the right guys."
"Oh, so you've proclaimed yourself leader." Violet huffed at his cocky attitude.
"I'm the one with the gun and guards jacket." Bellamy shot getting closer, lifting up his shirt and revealing his abs and handgun tucked into his pants.
Violet raised her eyebrows at the sight and opened her jacket flashing her gun.
"You're not that special Blake." She stated smirking at his shocked look.
"Where'd you get it?" He demanded to know.
Violet laughed causing Bellamy to grow more annoyed, "You do know what I was arrested for right?" She said searching his eyes but his body language said he had no idea. "Theft. Remember the whole 'don't open til we get to earth scotch thing' passed down by chancellors went missing, from the chancellor's office?" She asked.
"That was you?" He asked shocked.
"Yeah, Miller and I were pretty drunk on my birthday and decided to steal it." She said scratching the back of her neck awkwardly. "My dad saw it in my room half empty the next morning. I explained what I guess must have happened, he went off to work, next thing I knew Miller and I were in lock-up." She explained.
"Your own father turned you in?" Bellamy asked with a bit of pity for the girl.
"Yeah, Dad of the year award am I right?" Violet joked still getting the pity look from Bellamy. "I was an infamous thief of the Ark, rations, moonshine, weed, clothes. You name it, Miller and I were probably stealing it. Either giving it to the kids in factory or using it ourselves. They would've known it was us anyway, we didn't disable any security camera or attempt to hide our fingerprints. It was a truly lazy robbery."
"Well it's still shit he did that to you."
"Yeah, thanks for letting me know." She said sarcastically, sick of the conversation.
Bellamy clenched his jaw trying to avoid the thought of being attracted to Marcus Kane's daughter and shook his head.
"I'm gonna uh go look for-" He began but was cut off by Conner.
"Hey! Look! The whore is already hooking up with the earth guard!" He shouted at Violet and her stomach sank.
"The fuck did you say to her?" Bellamy shouted pissed.
"Bellamy. Bellamy. Let it go." Violet said grabbing his arm and pulling him back.
He shook his arm from her grasp and knocked the guy unconscious.
"Gotta establish some control," Bellamy mumbled fixing his hair.
"Well, you've established something." She replied gazing at all the delinquents who were staring her and Bellamy down.
Her stomach twisted with nerves and butterflies from this altercation. No way was she attracted to Bellamy, and no way did he just knock a guy out for her. This was not happening. She had Evan and he made her happy, kinda, but still, he would be waiting for her when they come to the ground.
Bellamy cleared his throat and passed by Violet as he walked back into the dropship. "Anyone speaks to you like that, they answer to me. Got it?" He stated.
