Malaya woke up took a shower got dressed then went to the kitchen where she was met with amazing smells and a range of food to choose from for breakfast. Her dad was already sitting at the table so she joined him and started serving herself a plate. Soon her mom came bringing the last dish of food and rest it on the table then took her seat. She asked her husband to pray then they dived in. the food was homely and heavenly. Oh how she had missed this, her mom's cooking and having someone else prepare meals other than herself or take-outs. It was a nice changed which Malaya welcomed. Once they were through she helped her mom cleared the table. The leftovers were packed in dishes while the dirty plates were packed into the sink.
Her mom had plans for the day and without asking those plans had also become Malaya's plans. On the list was to visit her friend, go grocery shopping, do a drop off, take a walk in the park and then see how the day went afterwards. It was girl's time since they hadn't done that in a while. Ensuring that they were all suited up for the climate wearing their jacket and snow boots they were ready. Without waiting any longer her mom pulled her through the door. Malaya didn't even remember to grab her phone not that she needed it. Whoever needed to contact her could wait not that anyone wanted to anyways. So it was better off where it was she thought which was on the night table beside her bed. She couldn't help but think about someone, that person in particular contacting her. Although, she doubted she would have answered, she didn't want to talk to him. Somehow he always found a way to wound himself into her head she cursed herself and tried to block the thoughts about him. Malaya and her mom got to the friend's house and went inside. Rounds of hugs and kisses were given to Malaya along with a line of questions. She did her best to answer how she could, without letting too much out when it touched the relationship subject. Sigh people are always so nosy Malaya thought. An hour was spent there just catching up to speed with everything that has happened.
Malaya had been dreading to leave and finally they were about to. She definitely needed to get back on track get on with her life and put the past behind her without harboring all the baggage that seemed to make her agitated and irritated when she had human contact. They made their way down to the store. As she and her mom got closer someone came into view. Both of their eyes met at the same time and they held it for a while. When she got closer she realized that he looked oddly familiar and it seemed as if she could say he thought the same the way he was looking at her. Oh how could she not have noticed right away she thought?
"Chris Lay!" they shouted simultaneously.
Closing the gap they gave each other a hug. He really wanted to add a kiss to the mix but knowing he couldn't kiss her lips he settled for a kiss on her cheek. Her mom went ahead and entered the store leaving them to catch up. So Malaya and Chris took a seat on one of the benches outside close to the food court. It had been ages since they talked at least not after how they left things. Which wasn't entirely bad but, wasn't too good either. Chris had feelings for Malaya for a few years but they were close friends and he didn't want to ruin it. Nevertheless he told her how he felt and found out that she felt the same way. So they decided to give dating a try but agreed that if it didn't work out they would go back to being friends hoping that nothing would change. But, they couldn't have been more wrong. It didn't quite work out because they were just better as friends the bond was better. However, Chris changed he took it hard and they pulled apart after that, there was less contact each day until eventually there was none.
So they sat and talked for a while. When Malaya figured it was time to go check on her mom and for him to get back to his schedule she got up. He hugged her once more took her number then asked her out to dinner the following day so they could talk more. Smiling, Malaya gladly accepted. She missed him and didn't realize how much until now.
