17. Getting to work

So I've been on this ship for half an hour and all I've been doing was clean my room and empty my suitcases, and it is so not fun. Putting away my last pair of shoes I let out a sigh of exhaustion prepared to just sleep, but life was never that easy looking at my bed the padd suddenly lit up with the words 'Needed in Medbay in five minutes' I quickly grabbed my padd pulled up the map and started on my way to the Medbay.

After at least fifty twists and turns and an extremely short elevator ride, I finally arrived at the door with the giant words 'Medbay' on it, taking a moment to check myself I quickly entered to find that Bones was giving everyone else a speech I quickly moved inside and instantly started listening. "Alright everyone welcome back to the Medbay hope you enjoy the next two years putting up with everyone in here I want everything to go well this time okay?" everyone including me quickly spoke up "Yes Sir".

Once the bosses 'inspiring speech' was complete everyone quickly split into where they were signed for the next years me being a bit lazy had completely forgotten to check so I meekly approached Bones hoping he wouldn't be in too much a mood.

"Um sir" I caught his attention from talking with another nurse "yeah Addy?' he asked rushed walking around to check that we were all good in the Medbay and nothing had gone wrong upon flight. "yeah um so I don't really know where I'm stationed" I looked at him with an awkward smile which he just pointed to an unattended section of the massive room and quipped "there now get moving" and rushed off to another medical cabinet.

(13 hours later)

I flopped onto my slightly comfy bed with a big sigh immediately wanting to cut off my own legs from the extreme pain of walking around for hours had caused me cursing Bones evil get back at me by sending me on every single letter that had to be given to anyone. I was clearly not his favourite today, after a comfy thirty-minute nap I woke up feeling sharp pains in my stomach from having neglected to eat from this morning and lunch. I hoisted myself up cringing at the sharp pain in my knee I slowly walked myself through the dimly lit corridor fitting seeing as it was night time for most of the crew only night owls and people who had neglected to complete papers would be up now.

Finally finding the cafeteria I saw three others inside two younger students having what seemed to be a late-night date and second in command Spock reading a book whose cover I couldn't make out, having felt intimidated by his presence last time and not wanting to disturb the lovebirds I grabbed my food and sat at a table within equal distances to both. Halfway through chowing down on my oversized serving of mac and cheese the lovebirds kissed and split to go to their respective rooms I felt odd as even though we were away from each other I was still near Spock.

"So how was your first day in the Medbay?" I quickly spun my head to see Spock looking at me "oh um I uh" I was at a loss for word never having thought he would engage in conversation with me I picked up my plate and sat across from him thinking it would be the polite thing to do "Um it was good kind of tiring I don't think Bones likes me very much" Spock gave me his normal monotone look and replied "Bones only dislikes students who do not respect the work or make him angry"

"So me great" I muttered rolling my eyes at how long and torturous this year would be

"You do not respect your work in the Medbay?" Spock questioned and as he did his hand moved to show the name of his book titled "Emotions for dummies (and Vulcans)" feeling bad I asked, "Spock if you don't want to talk to me you don't have to but who got you that book?"-
