"What the fuck and how the hell!?" Grandma exploded

"No, no, NO!" Mom screamed "my son would NEVER! This is a mistake!"

"Mom, I didn't do this. I swear" KJ said "call grandad and Uncle D so they can sort this ma. Please don't worry about me. Focus on dad."

Mom's now red eyes were even darker as she followed KJ to the cop car. Mom was hot on KJ trail and kissed his cheek as they shoved him into the car.

"I'm calling your grandad now KJ. Don't talk to them pigs until your lawyer make it!" Grandma yelled as the cops closed the door

Once the car pulled off, it's like I could watch my mother's heart break in two.
"Nooo. Whyyy? KJ wouldn't do anything like that?" She cried

Grandma held her up "no, he wouldn't"

"I know my baby! He wouldn't do that. EVER!" Mom yelled "how they even know to get him from here?"

That didn't even cross my mind.. but she was right. How would the police know to pick him up from the clinic? I turned around and looked at back at the building. Safarii? Safarii hadn't said a word the whole time we were here and she didn't even come outside to check on mom.

If only I had paid attention to we when the cops came, that would've told me everything. But would she really sell her own brother out? Maybe I'm stretching it, but I don't trust her. She's always so distant with us. I mean, I live with her but I don't even know her considering how she doesn't even try to interact with us. I practically live with a stranger.

"No one knows her son like a mother. You and I both know KJ would never do anything like this Patience. I've talked to Dax and he's contacting a lawyer plus Big D is on it. Everything will be fine. I just need you to hold it together for your husband in there." Grandma said

I walked over and wrapped my arms around mama. "Mommy, please don't stress. I don't want you hurting the baby. KJ will be okay. Dad will be okay. Everything will be fine." I said into her chest, hoping I was right.

I felt mom's soft kisses to my forehead. "You kids mean so much to me. I only wish your sister Heaven was still here." She sniffled smiling

"But I know she's looking down on her mommy. Proud of the woman her mommy has become." Grandma said smiling with tears in her eyes.

I smiled and looked back towards the building noticing Dr. Broussard taking to Safarii. "There's Dr. Broussard. I guess dads surgery is done?"

We all hurried back inside. Dr. Broussard held a sad expression. My heart instantly dropped. No...

He cleared his throat "um.. I'm sorry.."

"Sorry!?" Grandma exclaimed before he could finish

He nodded "we did all we could. He went into a seizure during the procedure. His heart rate dropped .. then stopped in a matter of seconds and we were not able to revive him."

"No! That's my baby in there! Do something! No.. he can't!" Grandma cried "he's all I have left! I can't lose another child!"

My heart broke. I couldn't believe it.. my dad is dead? This didn't feel real.

I looked over to mom who just sat motionless.

"Can we seen him?" Mom asked

"Absolutely, follow me."

We followed him down the short y'all to dad's room. Dr. Broussard held the door open for us as we walked in seeing a few tubes running through dad. Dad didn't even look dead. He looked his regular, hefty self just sleep.

"I'll give y'all your time, If y'all need me I'm in my office across the hall." He said walking away.

"Thank you" mom mumbled as he left the room.

I took a seat and watched mom smile for the first time today. She grabbed dad's big hand and gave it a squeeze then kissed his pale lips. I couldn't help but smile, wishing I could find love like theirs. Anyone could look into their eyes and see how much they adored each other.

"I love you so much baby" she said kissing dad's lips once more, tears staining her cheeks. She smiled then turned to walk to her seat.
"I love you too"

I jumped as if a ghost spoke.
