Prologue

Hallie Chambers

Where do I start with her? When we were younger we lived next door to each other. Having sleepovers almost every night and being with each other 24/7. I can't remember any memory without her being there.

I told her when I started taking pills, even though she already knew. See she was always a smart girl, she could act like she didn't even know what was going on. But in her head she saw everything.

It wasn't until freshman year, she finally got her braces off and she started taking her grandmas pills. Xannies, oxies, and some shit I don't even know. She was always a pretty girl, she developed early and faster than the rest of us, but wasn't confident.

Until the railroad tracks came off. She took more effort into her appearance, straightening her hair, putting on makeup and wearing tighter clothes instead of loose sweatpants everyday. You could say she peaked, but this was also her downward spiral.

Her parents argued more, wouldn't pay attention to her and didn't seem to care what she did. She was an only child and took it to her advantage. She started talking to junior guys even a few seniors. She found the attention and praise she craved from them. They would invite her parties, take her out and show her a good time. She was always a tease and would push it as far she could. She would hookup with guys, but wouldn't kiss and tell. During this point me and her weren't as close. The only time I'd really hit her up was to see if she had any pills.

She always came through, until one day I sent her a text.

It was like her number didn't exist, it wouldn't send. I tried sending it like 5 times, then the next day at school she wasn't there. I was kinda worried, I asked her best friend Maddy where she was. Maddy and me weren't close, once I left the picture she came into Hal's life. I was also one of the only people Hallie told about her and Nate's one night stand. Maybe a couple of nights actually. She would never be able to tell her best friend and I was sworn into secrecy that I wouldn't tell Maddy either.

Maddy said her parents took her to boarding school. They basically found out she was selling drugs, her grandma finally noticed that when Hallie would come over, her pills would disappear. Her parents gave her the benefit of the doubt because they trusted her. Until that Saturday night a party she was at got busted and they found her with white dust on her nose.

Go figure.

It wasn't until I got out of rehab, on the way home I saw her getting out of the drivers side of a new Mercedes walking into a 2 story house with her mom. On the lawn there was a big blue sign that said sold. I didn't see her father. She looked happy, laughing with her mom. She seemed skinnier, somehow her tits looked even more big. She had fresh blonde highlights and a mini skirt and tube top on. What did I miss?

So much lost time, for me and her. If my mom lets me out of the house today I think I'm going to stop by.
