I wake up to see Tobias gone. I tug on my robe and stumble out of our room, expecting to see him in the recliner. Nope. I notice a note by the coffee pot as fear grabs my heart.
VI,
Went to the store. Be back soon. Love you.

I sigh in relief and pour a cup of coffee and set a plate of sausage links in the microwave.
I sit at the table with my breakfast and crack open my book, an old book called The Outsiders. I immerse myself into the book so much that Tobias has to tap me on the shoulder to get my attention. I jump up, knocking my chair into the counter behind me and grabbing the switchblade in my robe pocket. He steps back calmly and puts his hands up. "Calm down, sweetheart. Just me."
I smile and exhale rapidly from the action. I pick my chair up and sit back down as he fingers something in his pocket nervously.
"Babe?" I ask.
"Y-yeah?" He starts, startled out of thought.
"Everything okay?"
"Yeah." He walks into the kitchen, kissing my head. He grabs an apple and tosses it in the air, humming to himself.
"So how was your trip to the store?" I ask, going back to my book.
"Great. I got what I needed." He replies.
"Which was?"
"A loaf of bread."
"Oh good, we're out." I say.
He reaches into a grocery bag I don't notice until now and pulls out the bread, sticking it in the cabinet and wadding up the bag before throwing it into the pantry, where we keep all the bags we reuse.
I close my book and kiss Tobias as I pass to the shower. I undress and turn the shower on, then place a hand over my stomach. I smile, knowing that in nine months, I'll have a baby, the baby under my hand. I step into the shower and wash, then step out, dry off and get dressed, turning off the water afterwords.
Tobias and I go on a walk and he looks nervous about something. I question him about it, but he brushes off my concerns.
Suddenly he stops and asks me to turn away. I oblige. I hear him ask me to turn back around, and when I do, I see him on one knee, holding a box that holds a ring with a blue stone, a grey stone, and a black stone. I gasp."You once said to only use your full name on special occasions. I figure this qualifies. So, Beatrice Prior, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
I nod and laugh and cry, hugging him and kissing him as he slides the ring onto my finger.
Tris Eaton. Has a nice ring to it.
