Effie POV

"What was that?" Screamed a nurse.

"It was coming from the village!" cried another nurse.

I spin towards Peeta. "Haymitch." I breathe.

I rush towards the door. Haymitch. I think. I'm coming, just hold on.

"Effie!" Peeta yells. "The man said to stay away-"

"I don't care!" I yell back, furious tears streaming down my face, as I run. "You would do the same for Katniss wouldn't you?"

A moment later, I hear Peeta beside me, but he says nothing, we're silent, except for the exhausted sounds, escaping our mouths. As we sprint towards Victors village, my shoes slipped off, shortly after leaving the hospital.

A group of 12's citizens have pooled around the entrance to victors village, Peeta and I elbow, through the crowd, Peeta murmuring swift apologizes as I push my way through the crowd.

But both Peeta and I stop short, as we push through the final layer of concerned citizens.

Because Katniss's home, is gone.

Piles of smoking rubble, covering the ground, even the windows of the houses surrounding Katniss's are broken.

The lovely victors village, the only part of the original district twelve, that escaped the bombs, looks like something from the dark days, the air filled with smoke, the cries of concern from the citizens, standing on the edge of victors village.

Next to me Peeta falls to his knees, I think of how he's spent pretty much all of his days at Katniss's place, almost all his memories of rebuilding his relationship with Katniss, where in that house. The times they spent, holding each other scaring off each others nightmares., the nights wear Peeta would cook cheese buns  while Katniss burns marshmallows in the fire. All the nights they spent together, were in that, destroyed house.

Then it hits me.

"Haymitch!" I scream.

Peeta and I race towards the smouldering ruins of the house. Screaming Haymitch's name as we run.

"Haymitch!" I howl.

Peeta and I paw through the ruins, as others run to help us. But no one digs through through the rubble faster than me, I barley feel the sting of the rocks, slicing my hands and legs. As more people gather around the rubble, my digging gets quicker, and my sight gets blurrier.

Haymitch. I think. I can't lose you, I've barley got you.

"Effie!" Peeta calls. "Over here, he's over here!"

People start shouting, as I race, through the ruins, in bare feet, towards Peeta, as I near, I see ahead propped by Peeta's legs. then shoulders, then a body, then legs.

"Haymitch!!" I scream as I reach Peeta. I'm here, I'm here Haymitch, I think. its all going to be okay i promise.

Then I stop.

Because now, I can see the whole scene.

Peeta reaches down, and brushes more rubble off of Haymitch's legs. Theres a red gash by Haymitch's head, and by the way Peeta's pants are getting redder by the minute, I can gather there's another cut on the back of his head.

I fall to the ground, sobbing, Haymitch, he'd always seemed so strong, so invincible. But now, he was lying in rubble, bleeding out.

"Effie, he's breathing and his heart beat is still there. Theres no gun wound either." Peeta says urgently. "But he's not breathing enough and his heartbeat is too slow. We need to get him to a hospital, now."
