If Only Things Were Different

Chapter 14

"Nii-san," Karin went outside her room and revealed to have used a transformation jutsu to change her hair and eye color.

"What?" he reacted. "What's the matter with you?"

Karin's long wavy hair is now platinum blonde, her dark, black eyes are now green.

She groaned, "if we go out and accidentally bump into some ninjas, they'll be on us! Transform now, nii-san."

Shisui did as told and changed his appearance. His hair is still black but straight and well-kept, his eyes turned gray from black.

"Woah!" Karin exclaimed, "nii-san where are you?" she joked.

Shisui flicked her forehead, "quit it!"

Karin ran towards the door, "let's go!"

Fortunately for the two, the village closer to their hideout is having a festival.

"Onii-san!"

Karin was deeply overjoyed from all the fuss in the village. The people talking, laughing, having fun, this is the first time in a long time Karin has witnessed it. Her smile gave away the happiness she's feeling.

Shisui smiled as he watches his sister holding his hand, dragging him from stall to stall.

'She sure is enjoying herself.'

"Onii-san, look!" Karin pointed out a stall filled with mouth-watering chocolate sweets, "Oh, I wanna eat. I wanna eat!"

Shisui sighed, it reminded him how young his sister is. At the age of  19, she's been through so much because of him. If only he had been more careful and thought about his plan through, if he stayed, maybe, then maybe the Kikuchi assassination wouldn't happen. If only he didn't let himself be caught off guard by Danzo then maybe he was long gone and hadn't caused this much trouble to the village. And never would have hurt his one and only sibling.

"Okay, okay."

Karin's eyes sparkled at the sight of dango drizzled in melted chocolate, she clasped her hands together as her gaze if glued towards the sweets.

"If your gaze could melt, that dango is gone by now."

But Karin doesn't seem to hear her brother as she reached towards the dango and take them from the man selling it and ate it.

"Oi, let's go to the other ones," Shisui said and Karin followed him behind.

He let her have fun as much as she could, she played games, eat more snacks, and tease his brother whenever she sees one female without a companion and introduces Shisui to them.

Shisui would be the one apologizing for his sister activities but couldn't stop her as she rarely gets an opportunity to become a kid.

"Onii-san," Karin looked up to her brother.
He only hummed a response.

"Thank you," Karin brought her choco-bun near his mouth.

Shisui stopped walking and looked down to her and smiled, patting her head as he took a bite from the food.

Karin and Shisui are now walking back to their place to rest from all the fun they had in the village. They had already dropped their transformation jutsu and was exhausted from maintaining it for too long. Karin didn't bother concealing their presence.

"Imoto," he stopped walking.

As Karin is ahead of him, she turned to face him.

"Hm?" she hummed.

He walked near Karin and went behind her, he moved her hair and placed the necklace he got from the festival around her neck.

"Onii-san..." she held the star-shaped pendant. "star?"

"You like them and also because you shine brighter than them. You brought back the light that was once put out in me, Imoto."

"Onii-san," she hugged Shisui and his hand brushed her hair.

"I will protect you, Karin."

"Mm," she tightens her grip on him.

Karin blinked and pushed Shisui, "nii-san!"
One by one, ANBU showed up as they landed on the branches.

Shisui growled and had Karin hide behind him.

"You're very protective being a traitor and manipulator, Uchiha." an anbu said.

"That's not true!" she yelled.

"No, Karin. Don't." Shisui wanted her to calm down.

Karin gasped as she sensed a set of familiar chakras coming to them.

"Kakashi," she whispered.

Shisui activated his sharingan and took a shuriken and at the exact moment, the ANBU rained them with kunai. He fought off every single one of them, when finished an ANBU attacked using wind but Shisui counterfeited the attack with his sharingan and took Karin behind the bush to hide until he says so.

Karin wanted to help but he insisted and so she watched silently until Kakashi's team arrived along with Shikamaru and Neji.

Seeing Neji, Karin tried concealing her chakra but it was too late, he's activated his byakugan and Shikamaru sent a shadow towards her. She hopped back and it was too late to notice the kunai flying on her way, she tried dodging it but it scratched her arm.

She grunted from the pain and tried getting away from Shisui to lure them.

Neji, Shikamaru, and Naruto went after her as Kakashi stayed with the ANBU knowing Shisui could beat them easily if he won't hold back.

"Kikuchi-sensei," Naruto called but she continued to run.

"Sensei, we don't want to hurt you. We need you alive," Naruto said but she wouldn't listen.
Neji threw a kunai with an explosive tag to a tree and Karin noticed it. She halted before she could pass by the tree and explode and have her defeat.

She turned to them and quickly did a massive fireball jutsu but Neji shielded them with his Hakkesho Kaiten.

"Just come with us, sensei." Naruto pleaded, "don't you want to be with Kakashi sensei?"

"Huh?" Neji said, "Kakashi?"

"Kakashi is ten years older than her, what are you thinking?"

Shikamaru had his gaze back to Karin but to his surprise, she's blushing.
