Trusting In You

chapter one

Regina's POV

"Mommy up. Up!" I groan and pull him onto the bed with me.

"Henry where did you go?"

"Living woom."

"Why?"

"Bed woom not have TV mommy." Sadly that's all I can afford. I wish I could do better. I'm barely making my rent every month and the diapers and food. And he needs clothes seeing as it's about to be winter soon and it's getting really cold and I don't have extra money for a jacket and I feel like a failure as a mother. I mean I am. I'm sure other mothers can give their kids warm clothes. Me in the other hand. Struggling to put food on the table.

"Mommy I tiwed."

"I know honey but I have work and we can't be late." He nods and I sit up finally, to get dressed. We showered last night so glad Henry is still young enough to shower with me without him thinking it's weird. We save water so better for me. I put on my uniform. Red collared shirt. White skirt and white sneakers. I curl my long raven colored hair. It's find of black ish- brown but not really. I can't describe it.

"Mommy my tuwn?" I nod.

"Your turn." I get him dressed in thick blue jeans and a long a levee red shirt. I brush through his messy hair and then I brush his teeth. I don't have food since I haven't gotten paid yet. I have to pay $800 by the first of every month but I also have to get diapers and clothes for Henry and I have to pay electricity and the water bill and my phone bill it's just a lot to do on your own but I have Henry. And he gets me through these hard times.

"Aw done?"

"Yep all done baby." He smiles.

"Let's put on our jackets. It's getting cold outside."

"Chwisma time?"

"Yeah almost Henry."

"Yay!"

"Yay." I say giving a real smile.

"Kissy mommy." I smile as he pushes his little pink lips out for a kiss.

"Of course my little prince." I give him a quick kiss before picking him up and going to my room. Well our room. I can't afford a two bedroom. I put on his black jacket it's fuzzy on the inside but it's going to probably snow soon enough and he's going to need a thicker jacket which is probably expensive. Oh god! I put on my jacket which is way too thin. But it's fine. I put a beanie on his head and gloves. He can't get sick. I can't have time off right now.

"Ready?" I ask him and he nods. I get my phone and purse. We have to walk because I can't pay for a car right now. Hopefully one day. I'm only 19. I had to drop out of high school because I got pregnant at 17. Henry is two. I couldn't do school work and have a kid. It was too much for me and I was getting sick from all the stress. And then his father left and took my all my money so. This is what I do now. We get there and I sigh at the warmth. It's nice and warm.

"You hungry Henry?"

"Yep!" I smile and bring him to the back.

"Hey Henry." Ruby says.

"Ruby can I get a hot cocoa with cinnamon and a bear claw for him?"

"Of course." I go to pull out my money but she stops me.

"It's on the house."

"Please Ruby."

"No Regina. Come on Henry let's eat."

"Morning Regina."

"Hi Granny. I was wondering if I could pick up some more shifts."

"Why?" I look over and Henry and then down feeling the tears.

"What's wrong child?"

"I just want Henry to have a nice Christmas. He's already stuck with me some crap mother who can barely afford her rent...." I shake my head.

"Oh hush you're an amazing mother. You're making it happen. Do you know how many people would've given up?"

"I can't even feed him until I get paid and eating out isn't going to help."

"Then I'll rush your check. And I can give you a raise you're here almost everyday killing yourself with these 14 and 18 hour shifts. You deserve it and I'll talk to Gold about the rent."

"No don't. I can do it. I just need more hours to give Henry a nice Christmas."

"No, I'll do it. Now let me cook you something to eat. You're getting skinny. When's the last time you ate?" I try to think. I remember a lot so I don't know. I shrug.

"Yesterday morning I had coffee."

"Regina!"

"Henry eating is more important."

"I'll have your check when you leave. Go get some food and a thicker jacket for him."

"Okay. Thank you." She kisses my head. She's the mother I wish I had. My mother kicked me out when I became pregnant. She said I was a whore and I knew better. I was sleeping on bus benches and staying with Henry's father until his parents had enough and he did too. Then Granny found me and gave me a job and I paid to stay at granny's for a very low price and some how saved up for a real home for Henry. Even if we have to share a room.

"Now eat and get to work." I nod and I eat the toast and eggs. She cut up some apples and pineapples for me. I smile and eat. Then I wash my hands and stand up. I clean up and Henry comes to me.

"Time fo wok mommy?"

"Yeah want to help me?"

"Yeah." I smile at his eagerness.

"Best behavior?" He nods and I walk out with him.

"Welcme to Gwanny's. What mommy get ya?" Henry asks and the couple smiles.

"Aren't you adorable? Is he yours?" I nod smiling.

"I'm Regina this is my side-kick Henry. What can I get you two?"

"We would both like the try to chocolate banana pancakes."

"Oh mommy good?" Henry asks.

"Yes it's really good baby."

"And to drink?"

"Two coffees. One black one milk and sugar."

"Any sides you would like?" I ask and he smiles at me.

"Can I get bacon?"

"Of course 2 of 4 strips?"

"4 and you have turkey bacon?"

"Yes of course. And for you?"

"I'll have to fruit salad."

"Okay be out shortly. Come on Henry." I walk to Ruby.

"Table 2, Chocolate banana pancakes one with 4 strips of turkey bacon and a black coffee for the man. Chocolate banana pancakes with a fruit salad and a coffee with cream and sugar for the woman."

"How do you remember that?" She asks before giving Granny the order.

"Not sure." I smile and walk away with Henry to another table.

"What you wike to eat?" Henry asks.

"Adorable."

"Welcome to Granny's. I'm Regina this is Henry he's new don't mind him. What can I get you?"

"Can I have your ham and cheese omelette well done. With a orange juice and bacon."

"Of course 2 or four strips?"

"2 thank you."

"Your order will be over shortly." He nods.

"Ham and cheese omelette well done. Orange juice and 2 strips of bacon." She hands me the first order of the pancakes. I give them their food.

"If you need anything. Or a refill." They nod and then I get the other mans food.

"If you need me or a refill on your drink. Just ask." He nods and I walk away with Henry.

This day has only just begun. Wait until lunch time. Oh another table. Time to get to work.
