chapter three

Regina's POV

Work time. My morning routine. I actually made up breakfast since we had food. Henry is probably still going to want his cocoa and bear claw. He loves those things. Weird kid.

I fix my collar in the bathroom, I wash my hands and head out. Time to actually do some work.

"Henry you ready?"

"Yep mommy." I smile and take him with me to the first table where a blonde haired woman is sitting. She looks at me with her piercing green eyes and I stop breathing. Holy. She's beautiful.

"Welcome!"

"Hi kid." She says smiling at Henry.

"Welcome to Granny's. I'll be your waitress my name is Regina and this is Henry. What can I get you?" I ask and she looks at me and smiles.

"Hi how are you?"

"I'm good, thank you. How are you?"

"Lovely. Your son is so adorable."

"Thank you. Henry say thank you."

"Oh, tan tan!"

"You're welcome. Can I get hot cocoa with cinnamon and a bear claw." I look at Henry and he jumps into her booth.

"I wike same."

"He does?" She asks me and I nod.

"Yeah the same way too. I've never met anyone who like it like him."

"Cinnawin?"

"Cinnamon baby. Yeah." He giggles and I smile. I love him so much.

"You and your son are so adorable." I look down blushing.

"Will that be all?"

"Can I get your number?" She asks and I look shocked. No girl has ever asked me for my number.

"I'm not allowed to while at work."

"What time you get off?" She asks me and I look at her in shock. There is no way she's going to wait all day for me.

"Closing. We close at 11. I get off at 11:30."

"I'll be right here."

"Okay. I'll get your order." She nods.

"Henry come."

"I sit wif hew?"

"Emma."

"Emma Swan."

"Emma meet Henry. Henry this is Ms Swan." He nods.

"He can sit if you trust him to sit with me."

"Uh, yeah sure it's fine."

"Be good." He nods and I kiss his forehead.

"No mommy reaw kissy." He says pushing his little lips out. I smile and give him a real kiss.

"All good?" He nods and I walk to the counter and sigh.

"Ruby what do I do?"

"Are you attracted to her?"

"I..." I look over at them her hair kind of glowing in the sun. She's laughing with Henry and her smile. Wow. Her white teeth. She's...

"I don't know Ruby. Maybe?"

"Just give her your number."

"It's not just about that. It's not just me. I have a son. I have a kid who looks like he's already getting attached. And what if something were to happen?"

"Regina-"

"What if we date and break up? What if I fall in love and get heart broken again? What if she's not what I really want?"

"That's a lot of what if's Regina. The way she looks at you. Give her chance."

"I've never even been with a woman."

"There's a first time for everything honey." I frown.

"Two of Henry's orders."

"For who?"

"She likes it just like him. He's definitely attached to her. Oh my god."

"I don't pay you two to sit here and chat. Now give her the order and your number."

"I don't know yet."

"She obviously likes you. I mean she's only looked over this way at you a handful of times."

"Really?" I ask Granny and she smiles.

"Give her a chance. You never know."

"My shift ends at 11:30. She knows. I guess she'll be here."

"She could make you happy."

"I am happy."

"What you are is tired. And maybe you need some love."

"And what if I get hurt again. I can't go through another Daniel. I'm so damaged. I have trust issues and I always think I'm not good enough."

"She could be that person who takes all your pain away."

"I can't let someone leave again. Henry already likes her. I mean look at them." Tears fill my eyes and I see Emma high five him and they both laugh and talk.

"I mean seriously?" I close my eyes.

"Here." She hands me a black tray. I smile sadly and go to the table. Hot cocoa with cinnamon.

"It's hot baby. So blow first okay?"

"Two bear claws." Emma looks at me weird. I set them down. I put a napkin over Henry's shirt and pants.

"Mommy I need hewp." The door jingle and people walk in.

"I have work baby."

"I'll help him. Come here kid." He moves and she gets a spoon and blow on it before giving him a sip of his cocoa.

"Tan tan Emmy." I frown.

"You okay?" Emma asks me and I nod.

"I'm good."

"Okay mommy?

"I'm okay baby. No worries." I say giving him a real smile. I don't know how but he can see right through me if I'm not okay.

"I wuv you."

"I love you too." I kiss his head and he smiles. I feel someone grab my hand.

"You sure?" She whispers and I look at her.

"I have work." I walk away and Ruby gives me a look.

"It's the end of your shift. Go see who's out there still."

"There's no way."

"She waited."

"It's scary to even think about being in a relationship and then I open up and hope I don't get hurt again. It's terrifying to let someone get close to me and Henry. Not knowing if they will stay. I'm 19. And I've been through too much pain."

"Oh honey." Granny says and I bite my lip.

"Go talk to her." Ruby says and I take off my little apron thing around my waist. I fix my hair and put on some chapstick. I see her with Henry. He's clinging to her. He's on his lap and she has one hand on his back and the other on the table. Her head turns and she looks at me.
