chapter two

Regina's POV

I'm so tired. It's 11pm. Henry is passed out and so heavy. I'm walking home. I need to get groceries. I have an early shift 6am morning rush. Until closing. I need the money. I'm so drained and physically tired but I will make due. I get upstairs. The elevator is broken. I see Gold at my door. He owns the apartments.

"Hello Mr. Gold." I say slightly out of breath.

"Need help?"

"No thank you." I unlock my door and he comes in.

"Would you like coffee or a juice. I have to put him to bed."

"No thank you. I'll wait." I nod and open the door to my room. I change Henry into a matching pajama set. Pants and long sleeve shirt. I brush his teeth and then his hair. He needs a bath in the morning with me. I put him into bed and hand him his blankie. It's just a blue small blanket that says Henry. With a heart. It's cute and he doesn't sleep without it.

"I'm sorry." I close the door quietly and sit on the couch.

"No it's okay."

"How's your day been?"

"Good you?"

"Not too bad?"

"Granny's called me."

"She told me she was going to."

"Would you like me to lower your rent? Because that's not fair to everyone else."

"No I understand."

"But you're struggling."

"I mean yes. I'm a waitress and I only get paid a little over minimum wage. And I have a child."

"What I can do is take off your late fee charge and give you the money back."

"Really?"

"It's $150 every time you're late and since you moved in you've been late every month. It's been two years and a few months. I'll return all your money. I didn't know."

"No it's not necessary. Really. I'm fine."

"No Ms Mills. You're a single young mother. And I know you're doing long shifts and working really hard at Granny's you're there almost everyday. Don't worry."

"Thank you Mr Gold."

"And if you're extra late just tell me." I nod. He stands

"I really appreciate this."

"Have a good night Ms Mills."

"You as well." I close the door and sigh. Thank God. I smile and head to bed.

"Mommy mommy. woud." I hear my alarm going off. I need to get Henry ready. I shower and bathe Henry too. He plays with the bubbles for the body wash.

"Mommy we late?"

"No honey but we do need to hurry." He nods and we get out and dry off. I put on white jeans with a red collared shirt. I put on the sneakers and then get Henry dressed in black jeans with a long sleeve green shirt. I need to get him a better jacket. Maybe durning my lunch break. Yeah I'll do that.

"Mommy I hunwy."

"Okay once we get to Granny's. I'll get you something to eat."

"Okay mommy kissy." I give him a kiss and he smiles.

"Let's go baby." I put on his coat and then mine. I open my door and something falls. It's a envelope. I open it and it's only money.

"What?" I see a note.

Dear Regina Mills,
So sorry for over-charging you with the rent. Here's the money back. All of it $4,350. Have a wonderful day
Mr. Gold

Wow. I pick up Henry after putting it into my purse and I go to work. I get there and I take off Henry's coat.

"Mommy hunwy."

"I know baby." Ruby brings in hot cocoa and a bear claw.

"Thanks Ruby. Where's Granny?"

"In the back." I nod and kiss Henry's head before going back there.

"Can I speak to you?" She nods and turns.

"I just want to thank you for talking to Gold for me. He gave me back all the money from the late fees."

"Don't thank me. You deserve more than what life has given you." I nod and bite my lip to stop myself from crying.

"Oh don't cry." I give her a hug and she laughs.

"Now go to work." I nod and start working.

I get home and put Henry to bed again. I flop onto the couch. I'm so tired. I got Henry and I thicker coats. It's so much warmer now. I also went grocery shopping since Granny paid me. Now sleep.
