I gave a general warning in the beginning of the story, but just in case, I’ll warn you.
There’s something smutty ahead.
Tang Yi served the tea for Hong Ye with calm, practiced movements. Hong Ye told happily
about her life and shared ideas she’d come up lately concerning the company.
“ I can see something is bothering you.” She finally said. Tang Yi put his tea down gently and took a long sigh.
“ I know you and my Shao Fei don’t always see eye to eye.” He slowly started.
“ Well I love to tease him and I admit that in the beginning I thought he was nothing but bad news and trouble. However I watched him faithfully wait for you, while you were in prison. He visited you when ever he could. He really proved himself for me during that time.”
“ Was it hard for him? He almost never talks about that time.” Tang Yi asked. He knew he was
side tracking, but he really wanted to know how his lover’s life was when he was away.
“ It was, Tang Yi, it really was. I know he did everything he could to not show it to you. He wanted to keep your spirit high.” Hong Ye gave Tang Yi a gentle look.
“ As you know he almost
never came with us, he always came alone. There was this one time I found out why. Of course one obvious reason was that he wanted all his lover’s attention to be on him, which I don’t blame him.” Hong Ye winked a little. “ But there was another reason. On the way to visit you, he
worked really hard to put up that sweet, happy smiling face for you. After the visit he broke down
in the car. I’ve never seen him like that. He just cried and trembled all the way back home. I knew he was embarrassed, but I helped him back here and he cried himself to sleep. Next day I questioned him about it and he admitted that this occurred almost every time he visited you.”
Tang Yi felt tears gathering in his eyes, when he listened Hong Ye’s story. He had never even
suspected that Shao Fei had suffered like that. Of course he knew it couldn’t have been easy for
either of them, but crying so much that he needed Hong Ye’s help to get home, was not
something he imagined.
“ I knew the visits were important for both of you, but I suggested he’d take a short break from them, because I saw how exhausted he was. He refused, of course. But reasoning was not something I expected. He said that he had to visit you as often as he could, because you would
soon start to decline his visits.”
“ I never declined his visits. We requested every possible additional visit we could.” Tang Yi
looked confused and troubled. He didn’t like the way Hong Ye’s story was going.
“ I know you did. Shao Fei never really wanted to talk about it, but over the years I came to the
conclusion that he was sure you would break up with him any given moment. One night after we
visited you he told me he wasn’t good enough for you.”
Tang Yi let out a long sigh. This was exactly what he had been afraid of. His lover had been
suffering alone with his insecurities for years. Not weeks or months, but years.
“ I need your help, sister. I’m so lost.” Tang Yi let out a small sob. “ I’ve been doing my best to show Shao Fei that I love him, but it’s not enough. I know he’s not acting like this on purpose.
He’s a smart man and he’s seeked for help, which I’m happy and proud of. He tries to get better.
Not only because of me but because of himself. But I want to help him. I want to make him feel
safe and secure with me.”
“ Marry him. You call him your fiancé, so make him your husband. Show everyone once and for
all that Meng Shao Fei is your man.” Hong Ye gracefully lifted her tea cup to her smiling lips.
