The wedding ceremony itself was short and simple. No music, no sweet words, just answering a few questions and signing documents, but the wide smile never left Shao Fei’s face. His grin was so wide and silly that Tang Yi was almost afraid his face would soon split in half, but he couldn’t quite keep the grin off of his own face either.
“ I love you, my Shao Fei.” Tang Yi whispered in his husband’s ear when they stepped out of the small, bland looking room where they had gotten married.
“ I love you too, husband.” Shao Fei whispered back and kissed hesitantly Tang Yi’s cheek.
“ You kissed me with more passion on the hospital’s roof.” Tang Yi chuckled at his husband’s sudden shyness. “ I sure hope you’re not going to be that chaste during our wedding night.” He
added and was rewarded with a bright blush that spread all over Shao Fei’s cheeks.“ Please, stop embarrassing me on my wedding day.” Shao Fei pouted slightly.
“ It’s my wedding day too.” Tang Yi pointed out. “ I’m pretty sure there is a law somewhere that
the groom needs to be embarrassed at least once during the wedding.”“ In stupid American movies, yes. But I’m pretty sure it’s a job for the bestman, not the other groom.”
“ But you don’t have a best man.”
“ Exactly.”
“ Are you sure you want the whole wedding to be so… small?” Hong Ye had asked when Tang
Yi had shared their plans with her.“ Sister, you should know very well that I have very few real friends in this world.”
“ What about Shao Fei?”
“ He’s not too keen on having a big party. He’s the one who wished for a small, intimate gathering only. And I’m more than happy to give him what ever his heart desires.”
“ I’m sure you do.” Hong Ye scoffed slightly at Tang Yi’s happy and oddly gentle smile. It wasn’t the rare, genuine smile reserved for Hong Ye herself, but an even more tender and warm one.
“ What’s that supposed to mean?” Tang Yi shot a glare at her, but it had very little real anger behind it.
“ You’ve gone soft. Officer Meng has wrapped you around his little finger.”
“ I rather like his fingers, you know.” Tang Yi teased Hong Ye. “But don’t doubt for a second that I’ve lost my touch.” He added then with a light tone. There was a hard edge to his words, which told Hong Ye that he really had not lost his touch, even though he was acting like a big old softy so often these days.
“ What about his family?” Hong Ye asked looking carefully at Tang Yi’s expressions. A strained
smile graced his lips as he answered.“ Shao Fei sent them an invitation. He’s too good for his own good, as you know.”
“ But you did let him send them?”
“ Well of course. I can’t control him. I would not even dream of doing such a thing.” Hong Ye
arched her perfectly formed eyebrow at Tang Yi’s tone of voice. “ If you have to know, I sent
them a little message of my own. I don’t think they’re coming.” Tang Yi smirked and sipped his
tea innocently. The reception was a small and elegant event. Just the people closest to the two grooms, just like they wanted.
Zhao Zi kept blushing, because Jack kept hinting that their wedding would be next. Shao Fei hoped it was true. He didn’t completely trust Jack, but he knew that the man made his best friend happy and that was all Shao Fei ever wanted for Zhao Zi.
Most people didn’t think a lot of Zhao Zi, they saw him as a sweet and naive but well meaning police officer
and little else. But Shao Fei knew something about the hidden depths of his friend. And he had an inkling that Jack knew more about them and cherished them.Shao Fei was so happy that he slowly felt the sadness seeping through all the laughing and joking. The dark side that followed even the brightest day.
Tang Yi seeked his husband’s hand
like he had sensed the slight change in his lover’s mood. He had seen from Shao Fei’s pale face in the morning that his lover had not gotten any sleep the previous night. He felt bad for not waking up and taking care of Shao Fei, but he also knew how hard Shao Fei tried to hide the moments of darkness that still sometimes consumed his whole mind.Shao Fei had worked himself into a real mess during the night before his wedding. He had been so sure Tang Yi was going to call off the wedding and run for the hills. He could not see one reason why anyone would marry him, let alone the handsomest and richest men he knew. But
when the morning came and he saw the smile on Tang Yi’s face and when he felt the warmth of
his arms around his trembling body, it came back to him. Tang Yi loved Shao Fei, loved him like no other.“ Are you all right, baby boy?” He whispered gently. Shao Fei gave him a small nod.
“ I just wonder… can this happiness really last?”
“ I shall love you for the rest of my life, that’s for sure.”
" Then I shall be happy forever.” Shao Fei whispered through the tears of emotions he had no name for.
I know this writing this chapter took ages. I got a new job in a museum of modern art. I've worked in a museum before, but not with modern art. If you've ever had a new job, you know it's very tiring indeed.
Anyway, I hope you liked the chapter. Would you like to read about their wedding night? Or are those sweet words of love enough for you?
