“ Where are you taking me?” Shao Fei asked for the probably hundredth time in an hour.

“ Do you even know what surprise means?” Tang Yi huffed.

“ I don’t like surprises.”

“ Yes you do.”

“ Okay, yes I do!” Shao Fei laughed and peered out of the car’s window. “But I thought for sure
you’d take me to some ridiculously fancy tropical island or something.”

“I will one day, my dear.” Tang Yi smirked. “ However for our honeymoon I wanted to really
surprise you. Does this road remind you of anything?”

Shao Fei looked around and frowned slightly. Then his eyes widened.

“ This is the road they drove us on when we were kidnaped.” He exclaimed. Tang Yi nodded,
but didn’t say a word, when Shao Fei started to interrogate him with more enthusiasm.

“ We are almost there.” He finally said, after Shao Fei had stopped the questioning and started
sulking. They were now driving a narrow road uphill. Oddly the road looked new, like it had just
been made there. They drove through a gate, which looked out of place in the middle of nowhere.

“ Where? There’s nothing here!”

“ There was nothing here.” Tang Yi corrected, when a small house came to view from behind
the thick greenery of the forest. He parked the car in front of the house. Confused looking Shao
Fei stepped out of the car. Tang Yi smiled and walked towards his husband. He took Shao Fei’s
hand and planted a loving kiss on his forehead.

“ I built a house on the spot where we spent the night together for the first time.” Tang Yi explained. When the words registered in Shao Fei’s mind he burst into tears. He was instantly wrapped in a warm hug. “ This is my wedding gift to you, my love. A hiding place just for us.” Tang Yi whispered and through his tears Shao Fei smiled the biggest, brightest smile Tang Yi
had ever seen.

“ I always knew you had a tender side.” Shao Fei chuckled through his tears. Tang Yi rolled his eyes.

“ You have witnessed my tender side for years now.”

“ Oh I know, I know. But I never get tired of it.” Shao Fei laughed and Tang Yi just had to stop and admire the face of his lover. The sharp angles, wide glueless eyes and boyish grin. He petted affectionately the stubborn hair tuft jutting from the practical but not very stylish haircut
his husband favoured.

“ Let’s get inside.” He whispered and pulled Shao Fei with him.

Although the house was luxurious in a simple and stylish way it still managed to feel cozy. The
calm, earthy colours of the decor blended beautifully with the colours of nature outside the large
windows. It felt almost like being both indoors and outdoors at the same time and Shao Fei loved it.

“ This is a perfect hideout.” He rejoiced. “ Can we never go back?” He added suddenly in a soft
and small voice.

“ You never stay in hospital long enough, because you are in such a hurry to get back to work.
How is it that you want to stay here in the middle of the forest far away from your job?”

“ Maybe I’m just a little tired.” Shao Fei sighed and chuckled softly.

“ Come on, my love, stop thinking. Leave all your worries behind and enjoy the hideout!” Tang
Yi said gently and in no time he had Shao Fei relaxing on the sofa, wrapped up in a cozy
blanket and delicious looking lunch coming up in the kitchen.

Shao Fei had a unique talent to talk anyones ear off in no time, but Tang Yi enjoyed the
animated chatter of his husband’s voice when he recalled their last time on the very spot the
house now stood. Tang Yi meticulously diced vegetables and hummed serenely in response to
Shao Fei’s laughter when he remembered something particularly amusing.
