Tobias Goodraven: Professor of Wand Flourishes

Description of the character

The format for this is inspired by the maintainer introductions by @RadicalSlinky

Name: Tobias Andrew Goodraven

Nickname: Tobias, Tag, Songbird, Nevermore

Inspiration of the name:  I got the name from Spirit by J.P Hightman. In the book, Tobias and his wife, Tess, are seasoned Spirit Hunters in Victorian England. The plot isn't what caught my eye though... Spirit begins with Tess and Tobias playing the Cello and having a conversation about their morning. Which is, in my opinion,  the most elegant thing on this planet. 

Nickname inspirations: So I actually used Tobias as the name of many of my DnD characters. I liked the name so much, I would use it often. After a long discussion about how me loving this name ruins campaigns, my party decides to give my characters nicknames to avoid confusion. Tag comes from the acronym of the name (T.A.G) and Nevermore comes from the Edgar Allen Poe poem. Songbird comes from my bard who would hit opponents with their Cello as a form of attack. 

House: Horned Serpant/Ravenclaw

Education: Ilvormorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (4 years- Horned Serpent), Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (final years-Ravenclaw) Further details will be in part two 

Wand: Ashwood, 14.5 Inches, reasonably flexible, Rougarou hair. Ridged shaft with a twisted dark handle. Chosen in the Ilvormorny orientation. Made by Violetta Beauvais. No other master.

Second wand: Aspen, 14 Inches, unyielding to a weaker owner, Dragon heart string. Dark Stains creeping up form its spiral carved handle and up through its ridged shaft. Won in a duel at the battle of Greylock. Former master: The Death Eater Forteth Blot 

Flourishing style: Tobias is adept at both single handed and duel wielding casting. His flourishes are likened to that of Sirius Black or even Grindewald. Notable scorpion grip with more powerful spells but generally casts spells with little to no effort. 

Blood Status: PureBlood 

Occupation: Professor of Wand Flourishing and Casting - Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. ExAuror of the Ministry of Magic in both the US and UK.

Returned to Ilvormorny as a professor

Requested by Minister Skinner and Minister Shacklebolt to return to Hogwarts as a Professor 

Physical appearance: 

Hair color: black with white streaks 

Age: 24 

Eye Color:  Black 

Notable features: bags under eyes from sleepless nights, several scars on his arms and neck from his several years as an auror. 

Normal Dress: Black dress shirt and dark jeans. (Professor Goodraven does not conform to the Hogwarts dress code for professors. "If you're going to teach magic you might as well be comfortable!") His style is more akin to that of the Ilvormorny faculty dress. 

Externally/socially: Outgoing. Able to make conversations and meet new people. Usually very able to handle himself in social situations. 

Favorites: 

Favorite Books: Any book that strikes his fancy. He tends to go toward books that are leather bound and older. A true Ravenclaw (his office might as well be in the library) 

Favorite Music: He generally loves any kind of music. He prefers to have music playing in the background of his class. His subject requires students to be able to emotionally connect to spells that are being cast.

Favorite Food: Since undercover, Tobias has grown accustomed to both Muggle and Magical foods. He enjoys Japanese food as well as French cuisine. 

Favorite Drink: Tea, wine, or liquor 

Favorite colors: Dark colors like black, blue, purple, etc. He generally loves any color if it comes with Black. 

Favorite Mode of Transportation: Disapperating is generally his favorite form of transportation. If he really feels like traveling, he'll ride his Thestral 

Favorite Animal: Thestrals. He has a pet Thestral called Spire that the games Care of Magical Beasts professors care for when he is travelling. 

Teaching Style:  

Professor Goodraven was exposed to the modern side of the Muggle world while he was undercover. He has a phone and his classroom has Wifi. He sympathizes with the Muggleborns and often makes references to memes and vines around them. He doesn't mind them being on their phones(to the natural disgust of some of the other professors, who have little to no contact with the Muggle world) 

Reason for Teaching:

During his time at Ilvormorny, Tobias developed a love for the nuances of casting spells. He would frequently sneak off to Lake Greylock and cast spells, watching the way the spell increases or diminishes with each movement of his wand. He slowly developed and began to journal several new styles of casting spells, while exploring old and forgotten methods. After his transfer to Hogwarts and sorted into Ravenclaw, he began to research the flourishing techniques of Europe's most notable witches and wizards such as Alaster Moody, Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore, and so on. He felt that the new and old methods need to be taught, so after his seventh year and while traveling as an Auror, he appealed to the ministry of magic to be able to teach Wand Flouishing and Casting and was sent to teach at Ilvormorny.  

Note from the professor: This is only a brief description of my character, I am currently working on a background story that will be published at  a later date. For now this is what I am offering up to get you started. I hope you enjoy :) ~Professor Goodraven
