Chapter Twenty One
"What do you think you are doing?" I shouted at him, trying to move away from him. Leon tightens his arms around my chest.
"I should be asking you the same thing," Leon said gruffly. I grew still in his arms from the sternness of his voice.
"What do you want?" I asked again.
"I do the talking you do the listening," Leon said, releasing me.
I don't reply, scared that he might do something to me. Leon had a dark look in his eyes; it gave me shivers down my spine. For the first time since I had met Leon, I felt like I was in danger around him.
"Why were you running?"
"I was running away from a wolf," I said truthfully.
"Do you believe it was a wolf?" Leon tilted his head to the side. His eyes were watching me carefully, like an animal looking at its prey.
"Yes."
"Are you telling the truth?" Leon asked.
"Yes," I said, my voice sounding less firm than the last time.
Leon stared at me for few seconds, not saying a word. If it was normal then you could the birds chirping noises or the sound soft sound of the wind, but today nothing could be heard. It was completely silent.
The air between Leon and I was tense and awkward. I looked at the trees behind him, trying to avoid his eyes that were staring at me intensely. Finally, when I could no longer bare the silence, I broke it.
"Who are you?" For the first time since this conversation started, I truly meant what I was saying.
"Who do you think I am?" Leon asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
"My roommate? Isn't that what you are to me?" I asked, looking at him questionably.
"What do you think I am?" Leon asked, completely ignoring my question.
"I think that you are a person that holds lots of secrets and I think you are the kindest person I have ever met," I said truthfully.
"You don't really think that. Deep down I know that you think of me as a monster that hurts people. Why are you lying to me?"
"I am not," I said truthfully. I stare at Leon; my eyes were furrowed together in confusion. I didn't know what was going on, but I knew that whatever it was, it was making Leon distressed. Leon stared at me in disbelief.
"I am a werewolf Ashley," Leon said slowly. He walks over to me, his eyes never leaving mine. I slowly back away until my back hits the bark of the tree.
"Why are you doing this Leon?" I asked. Leon puts his hand above my head. He leans his head slowly towards mine until I can feel his breath on my face.
"Doing what?"
"Why are you making up lies Leon? You are not a monster Leon," I whispered.
"Ashley, do you really believe I am lying?" As I stared into Leon's eyes I saw the green colour of his eyes slowly disappear and a black colour replaced it. I gasped in shock.
"Your eyes, they just changed colour. How did that happen?"
"It happens whenever my wolf takes over, like now," Leon said.
I stared at him for a few seconds. My eyebrows were furrowed in confusion from the change of voice of Leon's. I put my hands on Leon's chest, trying to push him away from me.
"Your voice just changed."
"My voice changes whenever my wolf takes over." Leon's eyes slowly return to their bright green colour. I again tried to push him away but Leon just stays in one place, not moving an inch.
"Please tell me this is not a joke," I said, moving my head upwards to stare at Leon's face that was inches away from mine.
"I don't ever joke about who I am," Leon whispered his voice back to the way it was. I again, for the third time tried to push Leon away and finally, he moved away from me.
"Who are you, Leon?"
"I am a werewolf."
He opened up his arms out and circled around the tree that I was leaning on. My heart beats loudly against my chest. My first thought was to run as far away from him as I can. But how would that help me? It wouldn't.
Even if I tried to run away Leon would catch me, just like before. I closed for a second trying to process what he had just said. After a few seconds, I finally asked him the question that had been in my mind since he told me he was a werewolf.
"Are you going to hurt me?"
"No, I would never hurt you. Never," Leon said. For the first time since Leon caught me running today, he has a concerned face.
"How can I believe you?"
"If you could believe me before you can believe me now," Leon said truthfully.
"I do believe you it is just something I didn't expect," I said shrugging my shoulders in response.
Silence filled the place as Leon stared at me, waiting for me to ask more questions. I did want to ask questions, I had lots of them in my mind, but I didn't know which question to ask first.
"How did you know what I was talking about earlier, the voice that tortured me my whole life? Does it have anything to do with a werewolf?" I asked.
"Yes, it does. It is a long and complicated story. First I will have to tell you the history of werewolves and how they live. If I don't then you will get confused. First, let me get you to the dorm, there is a storm coming."
"How do you know there is a storm coming?" I asked, walking towards him.
"A close friend told me," Leon said.
"You are lying."
"I will tell you about it when we reach the dorm. Come on," Leon tugged on my arm. The walk back to the dorm as fast as I want to know the answers to the questions that have been bugging me, mind since he told me he was a werewolf.
A comfortable silence filled the air; I looked around as we came closer to the university and noticed nobody was around. Since the day I had reached the university I had never seen the university this quiet.
"Where is everybody?"
"They are in a meeting in the central hall," Leon said pointing to the direction of the hall.
"Shouldn't we be in there? We could be missing some important information."
"We should be in there, and don't worry about missing any information. Jake will tell us everything that we missed. Come on, you wanted answers didn't you?" Leon said turning his head to look over at me.
