Chapter Eighteen
I pressed the internet symbol and waited for the internet to load. I tapped my foot on the floor, my patience very low. My mind was filled with questions I could not answer. Jake's words echoed in my mind. 'Be careful Ashley, you never know who the bad is until it is too late'. A shiver passed through my spine. I shook my head, trying to get those words out my thoughts.
I press my back further into the chair I was sitting on. The moment the internet had loaded I typed rapidly against the keyboard.
Voices inside your head
The moment I pressed enter, hundreds of results came up. I pressed on the first website. Pictures of wolfs and the moon came up. I moved the page down to see a whole paragraph, but two bold words stood out the most.
Werewolf chi
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. What was the Werewolf chi? I read the paragraph, trying to figure out the meaning of it. My confusion slowly went away as I read the paragraph. My heart beat increases; suddenly I wished I never read the paragraph.
Throughout the whole paragraph, words like werewolf and moon were repeated. What scared me more was that they talked about werewolves and the chi as if it were real. It couldn't be real, could it?
I wandered back to the way Jake acted, it was very similar to the way, the paragraph was describing it. I scrolled upwards to see the pictures of the wolf and moon. I stared at it for a few seconds and then I noticed that there was something behind it.
I brought my head closer to the computer screen; with squinted eyes, I saw that there was a faint face of someone. It was as if the person was a ghost. The face was pale and was hidden well in the dark colour of the picture. The only thing that made the face stand out was its eyes. Even though his eyes were as pitch black as the sky, there was a reflection in his eyes. The reflection showed a person.
My eyes widen and I pulled away from the screen. I quickly closed the website. I closed my eyes and took deep breaths. Memories of when I was younger came into my head. Memories that I had kept hidden for years were unlocked. I brought my knees up to my chest and rocked myself, back and forth. Tears brimmed my eyes as more memories were unlocked. After a few minutes, I opened my eyes and stood up from the chair.
I brought my hands and wiped the tears that were about to fall. I walked over to the closed door and opened it. I slowly walked towards the living room. The whole dorm was eerily quiet without Leon. When I reached the living room I heard the sound of my ringtone. I quickly rushed to pick up the phone.
Who could it be? It wasn't like I had many friends who had my phone number. My confusion grew when I picked up the phone to see an unknown number. I answered the phone, only to be met by complete silence.
"Hello?"
"Hi Ashley," the voice I dreaded the most answered.
"How did you get my number?" I asked, with sudden anger. I clenched my left hand into a tight fist.
"I have my ways," the dark voice said slyly, "How have you been dear Ashley?"
"Is that what you called for? To know how I am?" I asked, leaning against the cool wall.
"No. Now let's get down to business."
"What business?" I asked in a curious voice.
"I need you to meet me somewhere," the dark voice said slowly.
"No."
"Why not are you scared that I will you just the way I killed your parents?"
"I am not scared," I said. Both the dark voice and I knew I was lying, but neither of us mentioned it.
"Then meet me."
"I do not want to meet you. You want to know why because you are a killer, a monster that deserves to go to hell," I said angrily. I breathed in deeply, waiting for this sudden anger to subside. I waited for the dark voice to say something, but he said nothing.
"Ashley?" Leon said, coming into the room, "Are you okay? I heard shouting?"
I stared at Leon in shock. When did he come back? I racked my brain for an excuse but I came with nothing. Finally, after a few seconds, I cleared my throat.
"I was just having a disagreement with someone. Don't worry about it," I said, giving him a small smile.
"Are you sure? It sounded serious," Leon said, staring at me with concern.
"It is fine. Trust me," I said, lying. I never used to lie to people but nowadays it seems like a normal thing.
"Really? You do not have to lie, Ashley. I can help you." My stomach churned, as I realized that maybe Leon did care for me.
"I am fine, really, I said nodding my head at him.
"Okay, I brought lunch, it is in the fridge," Leon said pointing his fingers towards the kitchen. Slowly he turned around and left the room. I watched him go into his room.
"Hello?" I asked, but all I got for an answer was silence. I scrunched my eyebrows as I thought about why the dark voice had called me. I realized that the moment Leon came into the dorm, the dark voice didn't reply. It was as if the dark voice knew Leon was in there.
My heart beat faster when I thought of a secret camera in this room. I pulled the phone away from my ear. I looked around the room trying to see if there something, anything that looked like a camera. I was going to search around the room for it but was cut off by the growling sound of my stomach stopped me.
I sighed loudly and dragged myself to the kitchen. I opened the fridge and scanned the fridge until I saw a container I hadn't seen in the morning. I pulled the lid open to see noodles inside it. I took out a plate and put the amount of noodles I wanted. I tasted the noodles and moaned from how good the noodles tasted.
"I am guessing you like it?" Leon asked suddenly. I jumped in fright. I turned my head to see Leon leaning against the door frame.
"Where did you get his from?"
"A good friend of mine made it. What happened earlier Ashley?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Why did you look so angry?"
"Leon-" I started to say but am cut off by him.
"Do not tell me it was nothing. Tell me the truth Ashley. I want to help you. Please do not lie to me," Leon said softly. He walked until he was in between my legs.
"I want you to be happy."
