you expanded I shrank

You expanded, I shrank
When you told me you were leaving I felt my heart sink into my stomach
You were expanding, as I was growing into myself
We kissed one another like we were preparing for the end
I came to the conclusion that we would be together
Even though distance would soon tear us apart
As we grew more familiar with each others skin
We were about to feel the weight of it's absence
You were expanding as I shrank
Your future was bright and mine was a dim light at the end of a stretching tunnel
I wanted you to fade into me
combine our futures
Move as one into the unknown, but I knew I had to let you go
Because we became opposites of each other
But in the end my wish to be part of you failed
And I simply became a skeleton in your closet instead
