Heart Beats

'Cause everything that brought me here,

Well, now it all seems so clear.

Luke had Jai wrapped in his arms as they sat on the couch together. They weren't watching anything, they were just enjoying each others company. Jai grabbed Luke's hand and he loved how perfectly they fit together. Like his hand was made just for him.

"You know that I love you right?" Luke said all of a sudden. Jai turned to face Luke and had a look of confusion on his face. Of course he knew Luke loved him!

"Of course! Why'd you ask that?"

Luke shrugged and said,

"I'm just so scared."

"Of what?" Jai asked.

"Of Losing you! My biggest fear is that one day, I'll lose you....I want you to always know that I love you. As long as you know that, then Maybe I'll be able to keep you a little longer."

Luke had tears filling his eyes. Jai hated seeing Luke upset so, he hugged him and said,

"No Luke please don't cry! You can't lose me. I know that you love me and I'll never leave you! You could even hold a gun to my head and threaten to pull the trigger and I'd still want to stay with you forever."

Luke smiled and he said,

"I'd never hold a gun to you. If anything, if hold it towards myself!"

"I wouldn't let you do that."

Jai said and he laid his head on Luke's chest. There was just something about Luke's heartbeat that could calm Jai down and make him feel safe. It was like a lullaby that Jai could sleep to and a sound that could wake him up in the mornings. As long as he heard Luke's steady heart beat, he would have a reason to keep his own beating as well.

"Can I try something?" Luke asked and Jai hummed as a response.

Luke placed a hand over Jai's chest, right over his heart. He kept it there for a little bit until Jai asked,

"What are you doing?"

"I can feel your heart beat at the same time as mine. Do you know what that means?"

Jai shook his head.

"When two people love each other, their hearts beat together at the same time." Luke said and Jai learned something he would never forget.

He placed his hand over his own heart, and laid his head directly over Luke's heart so he could hear it. They were both beating at the same time.

"I love you too." Jai said and that's what their hearts said as well.

Jai woke up from a restless sleep because, that was the first time he had ever tried to sleep without Luke. He had never had such a horrible sleep in his life.

He smelt blood and looked down at himself to see blood covering his sleeves. He got up from the floor and looked at himself in a mirror, only to see dry and fresh blood running down the side of his face. He got dizzy and had a painful headache pounding in his head. He couldn't take care of himself alone.

As afraid and confused as he was, he walked over to the door. He grabbed the handle and turned it gently to unlock it. Slowly, he opened the door and saw Luke laying outside the door asleep. Uncomfortable but, asleep.

Jai's sight became blurry and everything began to spin so, before he knew it, he fell down on his knees and was cradling his head. Luke heard a noise and opened his eyes. He saw Jai in pain and shot up from his laying position to help him.

"Jai? Oh Crap, Jai are you alright?! What hurts?" Luke asked in panic. Jai couldn't see straight but, he managed to find Luke's hand and he said between cries,

"Please don't hurt me or...or leave me. I can't-I don't know-it hurts! H-help me!"

Luke squeezed Jai's hand and lifted Jai off the floor. He carried Jai to the bathroom and sat him on the counter top. Jai was crying while Luke grabbed anything he would need to help Jai. He wiped away Jai's tears and began to wipe away some blood from Jai's face.

"Luke? I'm scared!" Jai said because, he felt as if his body were growing weaker and weaker.

"You don't need to be scared babe, I got you. I'm right here and I'll make you better, I promise. I can't believe this is all my fault!" Luke said and tears began to fill his own eyes.

"You didn't mean it....I still you anyway." Jai said and Luke smiled a little. He began to question himself though...

"Why? I thought you wanted the 'old' Luke back?"

"Luke, I didn't mean what I said earlier. When I said I wanted the 'old' Luke back, I kind of just meant that I missed it when you knew everything about us. I miss it when you used to tell me new things all the time and when you used to hug me tight whenever I didn't feel good or I was sad. I miss everything but, at the same time, I should be thankful that your even here at all! The accident could've killed you and I'm being a brat because I expect you to remember everything. I'm sorry.....I guess everyone has to let go of their past eventually....even if it hurts." Jai said with glassy eyes. Luke could only say,

"You don't have to let go Jai. I may not remember everything but, I promise that what we had will come back. Actually, it never left. Letting go is easy. Anyone can do that. Love is fighting for someone to stay and that's what takes work. Even if I have to remind you every second of everyday that I love you, then I swear I will." Luke said then added,

"You could even hold a gun to my head and threaten to pull the trigger and I'd still want to stay with you forever."

Jai smiled because he was certain that he'd said the same thing to Luke a few years ago. Maybe Luke remembered that?

Luke then helped Jai walk towards their room but, before they got there, Jai asked,

"Can we go to the couch?"

Luke was confused at Jai's request but, he agreed and the two made it over to the couch. Why? Jai wanted to test something.

Luke had Jai wrapped in his arms as the two just sat on the couch together. Eventually, they both laid down and Jai rested his head on Luke's chest. Listening to the same heart beat that his 'old' Luke had.

Wait a minute. This was his 'old' Luke. The 'old' Luke never left because, this was same heart beat he used to fall asleep to. This was the same heart beat that as long as he heard it, Jai would have a reason to keep his own beating as well.

"Can I try something?" Luke asked and Jai hummed as a response.

Luke placed a hand over Jai's chest, right over his heart. He kept it there for a little bit until Jai asked,

"What are you doing?"

Though Jai knew very well what Luke was doing.

"I can feel your heart beat at the same time as mine. Do you know what that means?"

Jai shook his head even though he knew why.

"When two people love each other, their hearts beat together at the same time." Luke said and Jai remembered those exact words from when Luke told him a few years ago.

He placed his hand over his own heart, and laid his head directly over Luke's heart so he could hear it. They were beating at the same time.

"I love you too." Jai said and that's what their hearts said as well.
