The Lifesaver or The Heartbreaker?

Chapter 6

We were supposed to talk to our partners about how we are going to organize ourselves once the class was over. However, before I could even reach her seat, Alexis was gone. She literally ran out of the classroom. Seriously? How old is she? Five? I mean, I know she is mad at me, but at least we could talk how we are going to do this project. So, when I was on my way to the parking lot, I was in a bad mood. I don't know what is wrong with me and why this girl affected me so much, but that was not something I could control.

I was watching some strange TV show when my mobile phone rang. I answered it very lazily by saying a short “Hello?” I didn't even get a chance to look at the ID number.

“Hey, what's up, Luke? Are you coming to David's party tonight?” It was Brody. I was not actually in a mood to talk to anybody, but I can't say it to him or to anybody because I don't want them to know the reason behind it. So, I was looking for an excuse for not to go.

“No, man, I'll pass. I am not feeling well right now, maybe next time.” Okay, that was not that bad, at least it looks realistic. Apart from my mood, David was a total idiot and at his party there always was too much of alcohol and sometimes even drugs. I am not a fan of that and I don't want to go to prison because of that. Brody actually believed my lie and after a short goodbye, we ended our conversation.

It was 10pm when I finally decided to move. As I was lying on the couch the whole evening, I decided to go for a run. That can clear my thoughts a little bit, because my head is a real mess right now. After fifteen or so minutes I saw a park entrance and decided to go in there. The park was deserted, I don't think anybody would walk here alone at this hours. Then, suddenly I saw a couple on one of the benches. They were actually making out. However, something about the girls attitude seemed as if she didn't want it or as she was disgusted. I decided to move a little bit closer without causing suspicion. When I did, what I saw made my heart skip one beat. The man held a knife at the girl's neck and as I was close enough, I heard her quite sobs.

“Take your hands away from her.” I said with a cold voice, confidence evident in my tone. The man looked up quickly as if taken aback. He was obviously too busy licking the poor girl's neck to notice me. I am going to kill him. However, he quickly recovered and now there was a grin on his face. Then I turned my eyes on the girls and saw her so very green beautiful eyes. It was Alexis. What was she doing here alone so late? The tears were streaming down her face and that made my desire to kill the man even bigger.

“Listen to me, boy. Go where you were going and you won't get hurt.” The man said to me and turned around to continue what he was doing. I went right up to him and threw him away from Alexis, right on the ground. That made him angry, I saw it in his eyes. The thing was that I had nothing to defend myself and he had a knife.

“Are you deaf? I said to run a way before I kill you.” He looked at me expectantly. But I didn't move an inch.

“And I said leave this girl alone, idiot. So, who is deaf now?” I know that I should probably say nothing, but I could not control myself. This man was disgusting and I was not going to let him get away without punishment.

He lashed out at me, but I was quick enough to escape his knife. Then Alexis screamed which made me look at her and therefore I was too distracted to prevent the second man's attack and we both fell to the ground. Alexis was screaming my name, but I was too busy to take the man off me. What a heavy pig. Before I could succeed, he already had two punches on my face. Now, when I was on top of him, I punched him hard in his jaw and wherever my hand ended up. However, it was not that long after when he threw me off. Before he could make more than two punches, I heard the sound of broken glass and the man fell down unconscious by my side. I looked up to see a trembling Alexis with a neck of a bottle in her hand, she dropped it nearly immediately. She was sill crying and a I stood up to check if she was okay. She surprised me by running right in to my arms and hugging me very tightly.
