"(y/n)-chan, what is going on? Are you okay?" The concerned voice of one of your best friends cried out behind you. You could hear him shut the door and the lock click in place. You were very thankful for his quick thinking, as no doubt, more people would be coming upstairs to your room soon. You felt strong arms wrap around you. "Why didn't you tell me?"
You just whimpered and quickly turned around to bury your face in the crook of his neck, all while he was still holding you. You didn't want to look into his face because you knew that it would break your heart even more.
The strong arms around you were comforting to you. You couldn't remember the last time you got to feel the embrace of another person. After what felt like hours you calmed down and finally dared to look up into your friend's green eyes. "Izuku..." You said softly. "I'm sorry."
He shook his head. "There's no reason for you to apologise. I wish you would've told me sooner. Have you tried to deal with this all by yourself?" You nodded. At this point, you were both sitting on the floor across from each other.
He looked concerned. "How long have you had.... These symptoms?"
"A few months."
He looked shocked. "(y/n) you need help. Otherwise..." He swallowed hard.
"I know Izuku. I don't have much time left."
He sighed. "You have a long life ahead of you, (y/n). I'm here now, and I help you get through this"
You tilted your head. "Izuku, you know that this disease is terminal, right?"
He shook his head. "No, it's not. There is surgery! There are so many good doctors out there who can cure you," he said, starting to ramble on. But then he suddenly stopped. "Wait a second... Are you saying that you don't want to undergo surgery?"
You just looked at him, not saying anything. You didn't know what to say, to be honest. So you stayed silent.
After a moment, Izuku spoke up. "Who is it?"
You looked at him, shocked and unsure about what to answer. You averted your gaze and stared at the floor instead.
"Is it Kacchan?"
You swallowed hard when you heard the familiar nickname. That was why Izuku was the last person you wanted to talk to about this. He and Bakugou were childhood friends, and there was way too much history between them for you to be able to confide into Izuku about the explosive boy.
"Why would you think that?" You were afraid of the answer, was it that obvious?
"Well, it would explain why his words got to you so much. Also, these petals are the same colour as his eyes so..."
You mentally slapped yourself. If he put it that way, then yes, it was apparent. "Kirishima has red eyes too," you said in a last attempt to talk your way out of this.
He sighed. "I can't help you if you're not honest with me, (y/n)-chan."
He was right. It was too late to keep this from Izuku, so you might as well be honest with him. "Okay, you're right. I'm sorry for being so weird about this. It's the first time admitting this to anyone, and I feel so incredibly stupid."
He tilted his head a little. "Why do you feel stupid?"
You pouted. "Because I fell in love with the one person that would never love me back. I fell in love with someone who hates me. Someone who wouldn't even care if he knew that I suffered so much for loving him." Your tears started running down your cheeks again.
"I'm so sorry you have to go through this," he said with a crack in his voice. "But you can't let this defeat you. You are so much more than this; you will be a great hero in the future; you can't just let that go to waste."
You calmed yourself down again. "But what if I lose the ability to love?"
He smiled softly. "Then you got friends to remind you every day just how much they love you, so you won't ever forget the feeling of love. Besides that, you're such an empathetic person; I don't think it's even possible for you not to be full of emotions."
You smiled a little. "You're too good for this world Izuku."
He leaned forward and gave you a long hug. When he moved back, he held your face in his large hands. "So is that a yes? Will you undergo surgery?"
You wanted to believe Izuku that everything would be okay if you underwent surgery, but there was this lingering doubt inside of you that held you back.
"I think about it," you promised. Izuku looked a bit defeated, but he accepted it for now. A maybe was better than a no.
"I best get some sleep now, I'm exhausted," you said, and Izuku got back up on his feet, helping you up as well. Just when he was about to walk out the door, you held him back. "Izuku, please don't tell anyone about this."
He gave you a soft smile. "Of course, I won't."
You forced out the faintest hint of a smile. "Thank you."
And with that, the door closed and you were back to being alone. Alone with a head full of thoughts and a decision too big to deal with on your own. Exhausted you locked the door and let yourself fall on your bed. Closing your eyes, sleep soon took over.
