"(y/n)," he said concerned. "Are you okay?"
You nodded and smiled. "Yes, I'm okay. I'm finally okay, Katsuki." Tears were streaming down your cheeks, your vision was limited, but you could still make out the handsome features of the boy you loved.
Everything felt like it did when you had fought the disease. Except for one thing. There was nothing that was restricting your breathing. Your lungs weren't burning, and your throat didn't feel like it was going to burst with silky petals. You simply felt whole and content.
"Then why are you crying?" He didn't believe that you were telling the truth. You just tried not to make him feel bad again. Something had clearly just happened inside of you. He knew you well enough by now, and he had recognised that little twitch you made just before you had one of your episodes. This time it just didn't escalate the way it usually did. Just when he was about to express his doubts, you spoke up.
"They're happy tears."
He was confused. There was nothing to be happy about. This whole situation was messed up. He felt as though you had finally snapped and lost your mind.
"(y/n)..." he said concerned. "What are you talking about? Did you hit your head on your way here?"
You chuckled lightly. You were still squatting in front of the boy, your hands on his knees. You were looking right into his eyes.
"I love you, Katsuki," you said in the softest voice, reaching out your hand and softly placing it on his cheek.
"This isn't funny, (y/n)," he said, tears falling from his eyes once more. "Stop saying these things. I know you're trying to stop me from doing what I have to do, but it won't work. It just hurts me."
You sighed. "No, Katsuki, I really do love you," you said, wiping away his tears with the hand that was placed on his cheek. "I remember. I remember everything."
His eyes widened in shock. "You... love me?"
He couldn't believe that this was really happening. How was that even possible? You had had the surgery. This couldn't possibly be true. You were just making this up to get him to come back home with you. He wanted to believe you, but at the same time, it was too good to be true.
"What is going on? How is that possible?" He asked with a shaky voice.
You didn't know how to answer his question, you had no idea yourself. "I don't know, Katsuki. But what I do know is that I love you. I'm sorry that it took me so long to remember."
You were so glad that you had managed to get to him in time. He finally realised that whatever it was that was happening was real and not just fantasy. He wanted to hold you so badly, pull you into his arms and never let you go again. But he didn't deserve that.
"You said you remember everything now," he stated. You gave him a nod in return. "Then how can you say you love me?" He still looked so full of sorrow.
Sighing, you placed your other hand on the free side of his face. "Katsuki, I remember everything. The good and the bad. There aren't just bad memories, there are also a lot of good ones. Otherwise, I wouldn't have fallen in love with you in the first place."
He didn't look convinced. You could see that he was still thinking of himself as unworthy.
You felt a bit frustrated. Still, you also knew that deep down, Katsuki was a sensitive person and that he was very vulnerable right now, so you tried to be as patient as possible.
"Look, if you ever doubt yourself, just remember that my love for you has been strong enough to break through a barrier that was supposed to be unbreakable. Ever since the surgery, I felt like something was missing, and now that I'm looking into your eyes, that void I felt has disappeared. You might think that you're not good for me, but regaining my feelings for you made me the happiest that I have been in a very long time," you said while stroking his cheek.
