After your last conversation with Katsuki, everything had progressed really quickly. Izuku had helped you talk to your parents as you had no idea how to even start this conversation with them. Your parents had been distraught when you finally spoke to them. They were scared to lose you and sad that you hadn't told them sooner.
It didn't surprise you that they were immediately on board with the surgery and got in touch with a doctor that same day. Shortly after, you had been admitted to the hospital, they wanted to do some more tests before the surgery would take place.
Your parents had notified the school that you had been sent to the hospital and that you needed to undergo surgery; however, they left out the details. Even though it was common knowledge amongst your classmates that you were in the hospital, only your parents and Izuku knew the reason for your stay there.
The surgery had gone by without complications, and the roots had been successfully removed. You were cured, and for the first time in months, you could breathe easy.
They kept you in the hospital for the following two weeks to make sure that none of the symptoms would be coming back. They also did some memory tests to see whether the removal had impacted you in any negative way.
You had been made aware that the surgery could remove the memory of the person you had loved altogether, which would have been a problem, as you practically lived with Katsuki and it surely would have raised some questions if you suddenly forgot who he was.
Their memory tests were easy, doctors were showing you pictures of all sorts of people you knew, family, friends, classmates, teachers, and so on. They then asked you if you recognised each of these people and what your relationship to them was.
When you woke up, you knew that you have had surgery for the Hanahaki disease, but you had no recollection of who it was that you had been in love with.
When you were shown the pictures, you remembered each and every single one of them, correctly identifying relationships with all individuals.
Izuku had been standing behind you, nodding to the doctors whenever you were correct. When Bakugou's picture came up, Izuku held his breath, he was so afraid that it would cause a reaction in you that would make you remember your feelings, then all you had gone through would have been for nothing.
When you were shown Katsuki's picture, you rolled your eyes. "That's Bakugou, the loudest most obnoxious person I have ever met. He's in my class, I wouldn't consider him a friend though, I don't think he cares for anyone except for himself, to be honest."
Izuku gulped and gave a slow nod to the doctors. Everyone in the room knew that it was he who had caused you all this pain, everyone except for you.
Izuku was both relieved and sad. Relieved that you would live happy and healthy, and sad because your love for Katsuki had been so pure and unconditional, something not many would feel for the explosive boy.
Today was your last day in the hospital, and you were finally allowed to move back into the dorms. This was a big worry for Izuku and your parents. They were worried that being around Katsuki might upset you in any way. The doctors, however, had no concern, they were sure that all traces of your feelings for him had been erased.
Contrary to your best friend and family, you were overly excited to finally return to the dorms, being surrounded by your friends. You had missed them so much.
They hadn't been allowed to visit you, your parents told the school it was because you were under quarantine, but in reality, it was because you had expressed that you didn't want anyone to know why you had been in the hospital.
Izuku had promised you that nobody at UA knew about your real condition, and you were incredibly thankful that he kept quiet.
He was watching you while you were packing your bags. "Izuku?" You asked, trying to get his attention, not realising that he was already focused on your back.
"Hm?" He simply replied.
"I just wanted to thank you. Thank you for being such an amazing friend and helping me to get through this time. I will forever be grateful for having you in my life." You turned around to face him and smiled a genuine smile.
Seeing you genuinely happy filled his heart with warmth; finally, he had his best friend back.
"I love you, Izuku!" You almost shouted. He looked shocked. "Oh, don't worry, I'm not IN love with you," you giggled. "I'm not going to fall into that one-sided love trap again."
He laughed with you and scratched his head. You had no idea that he had a crush on you ever since you had become such close friends. He wouldn't say that he was in love with you, but Izuku did feel butterflies around you, which is why it had broken his heart that you almost chose death over forgetting your feelings for Katsuki, when he had been right there by your side all this time.
You had finally finished packing, and the doctors had given you the okay to leave. Your parents were at work, but you assured them that you would be okay with Izuku escorting you out and making sure you arrived safely back at the dorms.
When you finally left the hospital, you took a deep breath. You had been in this hospital for a total of four weeks, finally being able to go out and properly stretch your limbs in the fresh summer breeze was a fantastic feeling.
"You have no idea how much I missed going outside! I can't wait to get back into training," You were beaming and looked genuinely happy.
Izuku smiled. "And you have no idea how happy I am to see you so happy."
You turned around to look at him. You had no memory of anything relating to your illness. You had forgotten the pain, the agony, the mental decline you had gone through. To you, it felt like it never actually happened. You dropped your smile. "Was it that bad?"
Izuku suddenly realised that he shouldn't have brought this up, of course, you didn't remember how bad it was. He didn't want to lie to you either though. He looked conflicted.
"There were bad moments, yes. But all that matters now is that you have overcome this, and you are you again. Which is all I had wished for. You were so worried that you would forget your friends and family or that you would lose the ability to ever feel emotions again. But I never doubted you, I knew that you were too kind to ever lose this part of yourself." He smiled brightly at you, a light blush on his cheeks and it made you incredibly happy.
"Thank you, Izuku. I'm sorry for putting you through all of this. I promise I'll make it up to you one day!"
He moved closer and gave you a hug. "Don't worry about it (y/n)-chan. Let's get you back to the dorms, everyone is already waiting for you!"
