Chapter 22: Losing Control

Sonic Pov
Me and Eggman returned to the place I once fought so hard to defend. As we stopped Eggman hissed, "Capture everyone. We're gonna roboticize them all." I paused in horror. "I agreed to help you take over. NOT roboticizing these innocent people." I growled. "How did you think I would take over? You already agreed anyway. I'll wait at base. Get to work."

Damn. I'll never forgive myself. "Hey guys! I'm back and want to show you all a gift as a token of my appreciation for your hospitality while I lived here." They all gathered around me. No! Run away!

"Just follow me." Make it stop. I'm dreaming. I have to be. "Just through here." They all walked in and I......pulled the switch. It dropped metal walls and instantly roboticized all of them. Well.......one down.....

After repeating this process for every village but one, my concious was extremely heavy. I returned to the base and entered my room. I turned to look in the mirror only to see my fur began to darken. Suddenly, I got flashbacks of all the villagers happily following me, trusting my every word. As tears began to threaten to fall, the voice returned.

'Some hero. What would your friends think?'

"Nothing. I'll never let them find out."

'All secrets slip eventually. And yours is a particularly heavy one. You should share the burden with me by letting me take control.'

"I'm fine. This is my problem."

'You'll lose yourself. And I'll be there to take advantage of it.'

"We'll see about that. Wait, are you-" Before I could finish the voice returned to nothingness. Was that my dark form? I thought he was just another form now? What happened? Did I use him too much?......oh no...... It's because-

Tails Pov
"Bad news guys! The entire continent to our north is under Eggman's command. We should go over there and set up camp in the one remaining village." Everyone looked at me angrily. "Sure Tails, but where's Sonic? We could use him for this but he's been missing for six months. You've been saying that he's on vacation but no vacation lasts this long. We know you know something." Amy barked.

"Fine, you caught me but I don't know much more than you. He told me that he was leaving and to try to hide it until he got back but he never told me where he's going. We'll have to deal with this alone. Let's look on the bright side, we still have Blaze and Silver!.......for some reason." They both chuckled nervously and Amy into the corner sadly.

One Flight Later
We made it to the village and it was still safe luckily. As we were about to go to sleep, the sound of confused cheering was heard. We all peeked out of our huts to see........Sonic? Amy was about to scream for Sonic but Blaze covered her mouth. She was thinking like me, we can't be sure that he's Sonic. Our hearts dropped when one the villagers shouted, "We love you Sonic!" So it is him.

We all surround him without him noticing. I shot a tranquilizer dart at him but he dodged it with ease and looked in my direction. "Come out." he demanded with a slightly deeper voice. Once I stepped into view, a look of shock and horror covered his face. "T-Tails? What are you doing here?" he asked while trembling. Before I could answer, Amy hit him on the head with her piko piko hammer which knocked him out. We took him back to our hut while Blaze tried to calm the villagers and give a decent lie to cover our tracks.

"Why would Sonic be here?" Amy asked. Knuckles chimed in, "I think the better question is, what happened to his fur? And what's this dark chaos energy I sense coming from him?" Amy, Silver, and Blaze exchanged nervous glances but I chose to ignore it for now. "What do you mean dark chaos energy?" I questioned bewildered.
