Chapter 13

Dominique

I sighed as I walked over to Aiden who was sitting by the fire. I couldn't believe that these men couldn't cook, let alone rely on Ian's little sister to feed them.

Aiden looked up as I approached him, smiling. “So, you decided to help out. I didn't think you would.”

I rolled my eyes, sitting on the sand beside him. “I really didn't feel like starving to death,” I muttered while taking the strainer out of his hands. “What are you doing? You do know that plastic melts, right?”

He looked a little sheepish as he shrugged. “I guess I didn't thing of that.”

“Obviously. Now dig a small hole in the sand beside the fire, I'll be right back,” I instructed while getting up and going to grab some palm leaves and sticks that they found, bringing them back over to the fire.

As Aiden looked on, I took the fish out of the strainer and set them in the palm leaves, wrapping them up. I then used the sticks to take some hot embers out of the fire and sit them in the hole he had dug out. I then laid the leave covered fish over the hot embers, putting more leaves over it to keep the heat in.

Aiden gaped at me once I was done. “How did you know how to do that?”

I laughed. “You aren't the only one who was taught stuff about the wilderness. Now just leave it in there for a while, do not touch it,” I stressed, getting up and going back over to Ren. “Where did Ian go?”

She shrugged. “Went to go find a rock to open the coconuts...I still think you should let me try to use my hands.”

I sighed, shaking my head. “For the last time, no. You are not going to break your hand on a coconut.”

“I wouldn't. My dad and Uncle Benny taught me how to.”

I frowned, shaking my head again. “Renny, I don't know.”

She pouted, crossing her arms over her chest. “You're no fun. So, how badly did they burn the fish?”

“They didn't even cook it. They were trying to use a plastic strainer.”

She blushed slightly. “Uh, that is kind of my fault...”

I raised my eyebrows at her in a confused manner. “What do you mean?”

“I started it. I warned you. I can't cook.”

I groaned, throwing my hands up in the air. “Why, oh why, did you curse me with these idiots?”

“I told you. Karma.”

I snorted. “I guess so.”

Ian came back with a rock about the size of his fist, holding it out for us to see. “Hey, would this work?”

I laughed, shrugging. “I don't know. Ask Mrs. Coconut women over here,” I said while nudging Ren in the side and smirking.

“Shut it, Mee-me. And yeah, let me take a look,” she said while grabbing the rock out of Ian's hand. She took the coconut and set it in the sand, taking the rock and lining it up before smashing it down on the coconut, breaking it clean in half.

“Whoa. You're also macho women.”

She grinned up at me. “Hell yeah.”

I laughed lightly, tapping her head. “Now don't let that inflate too much.”

“Too late.”

I shook my head. “Ian, make sure she doesn't hurt herself, please.”

“I don't need anyone watching me!”
