Chapter 10
Dominique:
I laid in bed on my side with the covers up to my neck, the room around me pitch black. Sighing I rolled over and whipped at my wet eyes. I looked over at Ren whom was fast asleep in her bed. Pushing my covers aside, I looked at the clock. "Okay, two o'clock. I have about three hours. Good," I muttered to myself lightly.
I pulled off my pajamas and pulled on my swimsuit, then a pair of sweatpants and a tank top over that. Throwing my hair up into a quick pony tail I then bent down and laced up my tennis shoes. Grabbing the room key I put it in my pocket and left the room, heading downstairs into the lobby. I smiled at the person behind the desk, walking out the door and instantly running towards the beach.
I ran faster as I felt the tears building up again. I can't believe this happened again, I thought, how could I be so stupid? How could I not realize that something was wrong...I wonder who she is. How much better she is then me. No, Dominique, you will not think about that right now.
Once I got to the beach I went onto a near by dock, stripping off my sweatpants and tank top I dived into the water. I pushed myself beyond the limit with swimming. It's the only way to get rid of this pain, I thought to myself. I swam out until I could feel my hands hit the bottom. Looking up I saw the island that I had swam to every morning for the two days. Ever since I found out...
I pulled myself out of the water, falling into the sand on my back, exhausted. I shook my head lightly, tears falling down my face again. "I can't wait until this trip is over," I whispered. Actually, our trip had been extended, they wanted us to go out by ourselves in a few days to do some research. And of course we both agreed.
I sighed, looking down at my waterproof watch and noticing that it was already three thirty. Getting back up I walked into the water, getting on my back and swimming back to the shore. Once I got to the dock that I had jumped off of, my arms felt like rubber. I pulled myself up onto the dock, laying on my back and closing my eyes. I groaned as I felt someone tap my shoulder.
"Whoever you are, get away from me, now."
"Isn't that my line?" Ren asked while sitting down beside me on the dock.
I shrugged my shoulders lightly. "Well, I guess the tables are turned now," I said while opening my eyes and looking up at her, whipping at my face. "Why are you here? You're never up this early."
"'Cause you got up and I was worried about you. Oh, and if I pass out in the middle of the day, I am so blaming you. Mornings suck," she said while shaking her head and pulling my hair out of my face.
I smirked softly while letting out a little laugh. "Then I guess you'll end up swimming with the dolphins," I joked while sitting up and grabbing my stuff, standing up. "You don't need to worry about me, you should know that by now."
"Yeah, but I am your friend, so I'm allowed to."
I shrugged lightly. "Yeah, I know," I muttered while giving her a small sad smile. "So did you walk, or bring your car?" I asked her while slipping my shoes on and walking off of the dock.
She gave me a look of disbelieve before answering and walking along side of me. "Car. Walking is WAY to much work."
I nodded softly. "Of course," I said, not really paying attention to what I was saying. I took out my towel and dried off my hair and body, slipping my shirt back on as we walked up to her car. I opened the door and laid my towel down on her chair so I didn't get the rental car all seaish.
She got into the car, starting it up and pulling out. "You could be wrong you know."
I sighed softly. "I know...but both you and I know that there's something up. He can't even look me in the eyes for more then five seconds...What else could it be?" I asked in a pleading and pathetic voice.
