Ashish
I tried to make her sleep peacefully but she was having a very unsettling night.
She was having trouble even closing her eyes after what happened last night."Ashish." She yelled and woke up abruptly the third time in the last two hours. She gasped for air and clutched at her throat to breathe. I rubbed her back and when she saw me, she clung onto me tightly.
"Everything is fine. I am here with you." I comforted her, wrapping my arms around her. At this rate, she would fall sick from just thinking about the other night.
"I don't want to sleep. Every time I close my eyes, I find myself in that situation again and I can't breathe. Why are the visuals not going?" She said sniffing. My heart broke looking at her vulnerable condition. I felt my anger flare at Akash in that moment.
"It's okay. It will be fine. Let's not sleep. Let's go walk outside in the garden. Hmm?" I asked her softly. She nodded against my chest and I stood up from the bed, holding my hand out for her. She clutched my arm tightly and walked with me outside.
It was the wee hours of the morning, the air felt crisp and fresh touching our faces and playing with the plants in the garden. Akshita inhaled deeply and sighed.
"Feeling better, my love?" I asked kissing her temple. She nodded against my chest and we both sat on the swing.
"Do you want to go somewhere far for some days?" She looked up at my question.
"Far away? As in?" She repeated after me.
"As in some other country. We haven't even gone on our honeymoon yet. I didn't plan it before because you know, I never thought we would be so comfortable with each other this early in our marriage. But since the situation has changed now, I would like to spend some quality time with you before our work becomes an obstacle. So why don't we go to a faraway beautiful place? You can choose anywhere."
"Anywhere?" She asked repeating.
"Hmm, anywhere," I answered with a smile.
"I don't know." She said unsure.
"Why? Are you not comfortable or do you not want to go anywhere?" I asked.
"Nothing like that. It's just I don't know where to go. I have never been anywhere." She replied.
"That's not a problem, sweetheart. I will choose a beautiful place for us." She rested her forehead against my chest. We sat there silently and then her stomach grumbled loudly. I chuckled as she hid her face in embarrassment.
"I am hungry." She mumbled under her breath.
"What would you like to eat?" I asked standing up and extending my hand to her.
"I don't know, I just want to eat something." She mumbled softly holding onto my hand.
"Hmm, ok. I will cook something for you then." We both went to the kitchen and because she was very hungry, I made poha and tea for her because it takes less time to cook poha and everybody enjoys eating it.
Serving a plate full for her, I sat her on the dining table and started spoon-feeding her.
"I want to go somewhere cold, where there is snow and I can wrap myself in woolly clothes." She said with her mouth full. I thought for a moment before a smile graced my lips.
"Hmm okay. There are so many places in my mind. I will choose a beautiful destination for us." She nodded and kept eating as I fed her.
"Now, you want to sleep or not?" I asked after washing the plate while she drank her tea.
