He looked up, his grin full of something dark, but remained utterly silent. Somehow, his lack of words told her everything she would have ever needed to know. She continued to stare at him until, without a sound, he made to stand up. Suddenly his impeccably put-together exterior seemed so wrong when contrasted with his malicious personality. Completely blinded by what he had appeared to be, she hadn't seen the real him coming. With all the grandeur and splendor of what she had always assumed to be a gentleman, he continued his stride across the room. She finally saw what had been in her bed all along... and she only missed a single heartbeat when he grew nearer. His breath fanned the side of her cheek, his shoulder barely grazing hers. The silence continued as they stood side-by-side. Seconds ticked away and her mind roiled. Just as words marched toward the tip of her tongue, he saw himself out of the room.
Perhaps unexpectedly, the girl had no tears to cry. Her chest crumpled in on itself, but not for the reason many would believe. As she broke apart, the sky rumbled with an angry authority that seemed to bubble inside her. She could feel anger shooting through her fingers until every inch of her thrummed with emotion. A monster grew inside of her, dragging the naive girl out by tooth-and-nail. Out. Out of her, out of existence. Her chest repaired itself, stitching each wound together as if it had never been. Her heart whole, but hollow. What remained behind was a glint in an eye. A promise of something far worse than a devilish smile.
