A hint of obsession appeared in Mu Rulan's eyes as she thought of something, returning the puppet to the cabinet.

Mu Rulan went back to her desk, leaning over the open book and flipping to a bookmark. She then took out her phone to dial...

In a study room, a man was focused on reading his documents. Suddenly the phone on the table rang, breaking the calm of the room.

Mo Qianren stood up to pick up his phone. He was surprised at the number flashing on his screen: "Hello?"

"Mr. Mo, are you busy?" A gentle voice sounded on the other end.

Mo Qianren glanced at his documents, choosing to ignore the question. "What do you need?"

"I want to sit down with you for a consultation. In what situation could a person remain standing when he's already passed? For example, if he's lost his head." Mu Rulan had really called him to raise the question of how a dead man could remain standing without feeling any pressure at all this late at night?

Mo Qianren frowned. "Why are you asking?"

"I just find it interesting. What do you say?"

Mo Qianren didn't speak for a few seconds before his cold voice rang out: "To be able to stand after death is known as a postmortem phenomena, or a rare sort of rigor mortis."

"How it occurs is basically that after passing, the muscles do not relax. At the moment of death, the muscles spasm very forcefully all of a sudden, resulting in quick-onset rigor mortis, fixing the posture of the limbs to the same as the moment of death. And most of the time, it happens when that person is in a highly nervous state or has a brain injury. It also occurs when the medulla oblongata is badly damaged."

Mu Rulan nodded as she listened to Mo Qianren speak, mouthing the words as he spoke.

She quickly digested the knowledge and asked, "Then is the reason that some people who commit suicide are found still holding the weapon because of the muscle spasming?"

"That's a partial corpse spasm. It's very common."

"Oh..."

She was silent for a long while after that. Mo Qianren could hear faint breathing and the scratch of a pen against paper.

He should have hung up. He didn't.

After quite some time had passed, Mu Rulan spoke again, "Then, if I want a corpse to present with full-body rigor mortis, what should I do? If he needs to be very nervous, then letting them know he's going to die should do the trick, right?"

"Suppose I strangled a person's neck with a very thin thread or piano wire and pushed him off a building. As his neck tears and his corpse falls to the ground – will he appear to be fully standing?"

"Mu Rulan!" Mo Qianren's tone was very serious.

She seemed like she would really put it to the test. Wasn't she too arrogant? Had she forgotten he was still investigating her for criminal offenses?

"I'm still here," she said, tone naughty.

But he was irritated: "What are you actually planning to do?"

"Hmm..." Mu Rulan shrugged. "If Mr. Mo is so concerned, you can just keep an eye on me, right? If you follow me around at my elbow, I won't mind too much."

Mo Qianren's lips were pressed into a thin line.

"Ne~ Mr. Mo, you still haven't answered me. If a person falls like that, would it appear to be standing?"

"......"

......

At the Zhou Family residence.

Bang! The sound of something hitting the floor resonated from the third floor.

"Are you finished yet?!" Zhou Sulun opened the door to see the disarray – everything strewn about on the floor. "Is stirring trouble in school not enough? You need to cause trouble at home too?!"

Zhou Yaya sat beside her bed, her hair messy and bruises littering her body. Her face showed signs of having been slapped. It was easy to tell how wonderful her life had been recently.

"Who are you to care?!"

"You think we're all so free, to come bother you? It's up to you if you want to live or die. But remember you're not the only person living in this house, everyone else still wants to get some sleep!"

"What did you say?!" Zhou Yaya flew into a rage. She was being bullied at school by that kind of trash, and she had to come home to this, to be scolded by her own brother? Was he really her brother?!

On what grounds... She had only hit Mu Rulan once, on accident, thanks to Bai Suqing's schemes. And just for that she had to suffer this kind of treatment?

In Liu Silan, she was isolated, and the stares on her body were scathing. She was treated as an enemy wherever she went.

In just a few days, she had tasted the humiliation that she had never once been subject to since her birth!

And all of this was because of Bai Suqing and Mu Rulan. Wait – no. It was Mu Rulan. If it weren't for Mu Rulan being so special, she wouldn't have to suffer this disgusting treatment; it was all Mu Rulan's fault!

"Listen to your brother. Don't be stubborn. You know that you're at fault, so tomorrow I'll take you to the Mu Family and you can apologize to Lan Lan. As long as Lan Lan tells her fan club to relent, everything will be fine. Okay?"

"Apologize to Mu Rulan?!" Zhou Yaya scoffed as if hearing a great joke. "Why would I apologize to her? On what grounds? These scars I have – who's going to apologize to me? Is the humiliation I've already been through not enough to pay her back for the one time I hit her?!" She had even lost Mu Rusen. Wasn't this enough?!

"Y-You... You're so unreasonable! You're the one who made the mistake, and you still think that everyone owes you? You deserve this!"

"I deserve this?!" Zhou Yaya's voice raised several octaves: "Zhou Sulun! You're such a good brother; if it wasn't for you who helped Bai Suqing, that bitch, father would have believed my words – I wouldn't have suffered this way! Damn you!"

"Shit! Zhou Yaya, you listen to me. You can stir up trouble but remember not to drag down others with you! You better look at how much father has worked to clean up your mess!"

Zhou Sulun had enough of Zhou Yaya's antics. He walked out of the room as soon as he was done speaking.

Tears fell from her eyes. "Why do you all love her! She's not even related to us, aren't we the same! Why does everyone treat me like this because of her... wuwuwu...."

Was it because Mu Rulan's temperament was more gentle? Was that why they all blamed her?

Those things that the fan club had orchestrated – she didn't believe that Mu Rulan would allow them to do so! If Mu Rulan really was so kind, she should have told them beforehand not to lay their hands on her! Damn, what a hypocrite!
