Mother Lu glared at Lu Zimeng, choosing to ignore him to continue nagging at Mo Qianren. "Qianren ah, Auntie feels that you and Lan Lan are really well-matched. She definitely likes you too. Though she says she won't date until she graduates, it's already just next year that she's going to university. You should keep an eye on such a good girl so she doesn't get stolen away!"

"Mom!" Lu Zimeng said angrily, frowning. Why was his mother such a busybody? Was this not her trying to push Mo Qianren into the fire? Whenever he thought about that psychopath sleeping in the dark, all his hair stood straight up!

"Shut up!" Mother Lu was even more temperamental than Lu Zimeng.

The mother and son were then engaged in a lively discussion, but the subject of the conversation seemed to not be listening to their words. Feeling his phone vibrate in his pocket, he brought it out.

——434.

From: Mu Rulan.

Mo Qianren, surprised, squinted at the numbers on his screen.

Lu Zimeng, who came to look at what was so interesting, said, "What's this? You're playing number games?"

Mo Qianren ignored his friend to call Mu Rulan's number directly. No one answered. Lu Zimeng continued to ask what it was, but Mo Qianren had already stood up to stride upstairs.

"This child only knows how to date now, but not eat?" Mother Lu muttered, sighing, but her eyes showed the smile she was suppressing.

Mo Qianren entered his study. He didn't understand the text that Mu Rulan had sent, but he had a gut feeling that it was important that he solve it immediately.

He had only one set of rules: he wouldn't make mistakes on simple things like geniuses would. His experience had showed him that when he encountered things of urgency, it was better to first look at the simplest possibility.

And what was the simplest explanation of that text?

That Mu Rulan likely had made a mistake.

She probably didn't want to send those three numbers, but rather something that was related to those numbers instead. But in that case, Mo Qianren would have to suspect that Mu Rulan was in a dangerous situation, since she wasn't one to be so careless.

Mo Qianren recalled the make and model of Mu Rulan's phone. Fortunately, he used the same one.

He looked at his keyboard and then immediately bolted for his jacket and thundered downstairs.

The three people who were still seated at the dining table were not expecting to see Mo Qianren again.

Lu Zimeng put down his chopsticks and followed Mo Qianren out only to see the taillights of his car disappearing into the distance.

"What? Don't tell me something happened?" Lu Zimeng had never seen Mo Qianren in such a hurry unless he was rushing to capture psychopaths. Lu Zimeng got into the other car to follow behind him.

Expressionlessly, Mo Qianren stared at the road ahead of him, his hands turning the steering wheel rapidly as he pressed the accelerator nearly flat. His car zoomed past the busy roads.

Most people, once used to computer or mobile keyboards, wouldn't need to look at the keys to type.

To suss out the simplest explanation for Mu Rulan's text, Mo Qianren had switched between the numbered and alphabetical keyboards a few times before realizing that the corresponding letters in the English alphabetical keyboards for the number 434 was – SOS.

That meant that Mu Rulan was asking for help in a very urgent situation that didn't allow her to check whether or not she had typed correctly.

And even if she were to send a message, by default her keyboard should have been Chinese. The only reason her keyboard would be numbers was if she had secretly typed it while on the phone.

But this make and model of the phone didn't support sending messages during a phone call: it would cause a network error and disconnect the call.

That meant that someone was instructing Mu Rulan from a distance, through the phone. If it was close enough, it would have been impossible for Mu Rulan to send the message or use her phone.

Mu Rulan was someone valued by the country. Her number would be high priority to the police. She was threatened and did not call the police but instead chose to send a message for help: that was likely because whoever was on the other end wasn't allowing her to call the police.

The reason she was being so threatened was likely because the opponent had something in hand that was important to Mu Rulan: perhaps her brother.

Then, Mo Qianren could assume that someone had kidnapped Mu Rulan's younger brother and used him to threaten her.

Five years ago, Mu Rulan had risked her own life to rescue her two younger brothers who had nearly been kidnapped. This time, she would surely act the same, putting herself in danger to rescue her younger brother.

Mu Rulan was likely in a car alone as the opponent used her brother's phone to call her while keeping watch over her movements with binoculars.

After preventing her from calling the police, he probably would have instructed her to throw all electronic devices out of the window. Mu Rulan had likely prepared the secret message during the call and thrown the phone out of the car when the call had ended.

The message would only then be sent. It could be sent in bulk, since she wanted to increase the possibility of getting help.

If his hypothesis was correct, then someone would definitely have reported it to the police if she was somewhere crowded when the incident occurred, with her status and reputation.

So it was likely that she wasn't in the city center at that time. And since the other was able to watch over her, then the distance between them must not have been great.

So it was likely that the opponent was driving before her and Mu Rulan was following.
