The police cars surrounded the fence, headlights flooding the area with light. Every single drop of blood on the scene had been circled and no one was allowed to move the standing body, nor was anyone allowed to touch the head, eyes forever open in grief at the sky.
Ke Wanqing was in a trance, trying not to relive the terrifying scene. She sat inside a police car, being comforted. But it was all useless as she shouted, very emotionally, for Mu Rulan.
The policemen around her had no choice but to help her contact her daughter, asking Mu Rulan to wait at the station.
Mo Qianren stood before the corpse, his gaze still filled with ice.
"Mr. Mo, the victim's name is Wang Qiang, 37 years old. He was previously the leader of the national security team in K City, but he was removed from that position after the domestic violence incident a few years ago."
Mo Qianren had seen this man before. Just this morning, this person had tried to use the name of the police to lay a hand on him.
Taking charge of a case in this kind of location was quite troublesome. The building wasn't functional yet and there were a lot of materials just lying around.
Most of all, it was night, so it was easy for them to miss important clues; but if they didn't investigate now, important observations might disappear, so they had no choice.
The policemen that were instructed to look for traces had long faces. Such a tall building with dozens of floors. How long would they have to take to check them all?!A cold voice said, "Focus on checking the third and fourth floors. The weapon probably has a kind of elasticity, should be thin – perhaps a steel wire."
The other men were surprised and looked to their leader. The leader glared back at them, "Listen to Mr. Mo! Quickly go and search!"
They ran quickly upstairs. The leader sidled up to Mo Qianren's side, inspecting the body, but no matter how he looked at it, he couldn't figure out how he had come to his conclusion.
So he asked, "Mr. Mo, how do you know that he fell from the third or fourth floors, and why do you think the weapon is a steel wire?"
"The victim appears to be in rigor mortis that set in after the head was detached from the body. The body has to bear the impact of falling, and that wouldn't be possible if it was from too far up. And the reason I believe the weapon is an elastic steel wire is that the scar at the victim's neck indicates repetitive cuts."
"Also, according to the witness' testimony, she hadn't seen how the victim died before seeing the body. Instead she felt the blood drip from the sky like rain, which meant that he hadn't died yet – he was hung into the air but out of the range of her sight. An elastic wire would allow the victim to hand near the second or third floors, so that when his head was detached from his body, the body would fall to the ground and remain standing."
The leader's eyes widened as he listened. On the other side, a female forensic scientist approached to tell him about the initial results of the autopsy.
It was the same as what Mo Qianren had just said! Moreover, the forensic scientist had investigated hands-on, while Mo Qianren had gleaned the information merely by observing!
"But the blood..." The leader furrowed his brows, looking at the blood splatters from the first to the fifth floor.
"It's an extreme amount and splattered very high up, right? When a person is beheaded, the amount of blood that results could cover at least two floors up," the scientist replied, her gaze turning to Mo Qianren as she introduced herself with a smile, "I'm Liu Mian."
He looked at her hand. She had been wearing gloves when she inspected the body, but her hand was still quite dirty for a neat freak like him though she had taken off her gloves.
"Mo Qianren," he said indifferently, rejecting the handshake.
She was a little awkward but soon shook her head and smiled, like she had expected it.
Very soon, the policemen who had gone to investigate had discovered the weapon, a silvery thread that was tied to a pillar. The victim's blood, fingerprints and flesh were all discovered there, as well as... a lollipop that had been crushed and trampled over.
Looking at the pink lollipop encased in a plastic bag, Mo Qianren's gaze iced over even more.
Well done, very well done! Mu Rulan...... Really amazing indeed, her alibi was so secure!
At the police station.
Ke Wanqing, as the only witness to the scene, was sent to the police station, where Mu Rulan had been waiting.
When she saw her, Ke Wanqing immediately went to hug her, still so scared her body shook.
"It's fine now. Don't be afraid, mother, it's alright now," Mu Rulan comforted softly.
Not long after, the police returned with the corpse. A policewoman came to Ke Wanqing. "Madam Ke, please follow me to get your experience on the record while your memories are still vivid."
Mu Rulan patted her hand in comfort and sent her an encouraging gaze as Ke Wanqing slowly followed the policewoman into the room.
The corridor was quiet.
Footsteps began to ring as they neared. A shadow covered Mu Rulan and she saw legs before her.
She lifted her head, seeing Mo Qianren.
She smiled, raising her hands: "Ya! Mr. Mo, we meet again."
He stared at her once more, keeping silent. Just when she thought he didn't plan to say anything, he bent down all of a sudden, both his arms on the chair armrests, confining her between his arms.
"This morning, before you met me, you had already set everything up, right, Miss Mu?" Mo Qianren's voice whispered in her ear.
