The next morning Severus floo called Dumbledore to let him know of the situation and that someone would need to cover the next two days of his classes. Dumbledore was very hesitant that this was the best choice for Harry but after a while he gave up as he knew he couldn't win. Severus was furious at Dumbledore for letting Harry go to his relatives in the first place and trying to get him to go back there even knowing of their treatment of him. Severus went to get Harry from his room. As it was already 8 o'clock, he wasn't sure that Harry would know how to get to the dining room since it was a large manor. When he got there he found Harry reading a book on his bed.
"Good morning, Harry. What are you reading?" Asked Severus, curious to what the boy could have found in here that would have interested him.
"Good morning, Severus. I found it on the bookshelf, it's called 'Hogwarts: A History'. It's very interesting. Do the staircases really move?" Asked Harry quietly.
"Yes, they do. Do you enjoy reading Harry?"
"I love reading, it's the only thing I could do during school as no one wanted to be my friend, because Dudley told everyone I was a freak."
"Harry, you're not a freak, and you will make lots of friends at Hogwarts. Why do you hold the book so close to your face when you read?"
"So I can read the words, it's too hard further away."
"When was the last time you went to get your eyes tested?"
"I think I was 7 because I couldn't read the board and my teacher gave my aunt and uncle a note saying my vision was bad. They were not happy to pay for my glasses, so that would be the last time."
"Okay, we will get your eyes tested today and get you some books in Diagon Alley. Are you ready for breakfast?"
"Yes, thank you." Harry said. Severus lead them down to the dining room and called for the house elf, Tipsy to bring them breakfast. After breakfast they both got ready to go to Diagon Alley.
Severus led them to the living room and they took the floo to the Leaky Cauldron. Since it was a Wednesday morning there were few people there. Severus first led Harry to Gringotts to go into his vault.
"Severus, what is Gringotts?" Asked Harry once they were standing outside of the large stone building.
"It's where most witches and wizards keep their money. It's like a muggle bank except here you have your own vault where your money is stored and you must go down to your vault to collect it. As you are the Potter heir you have inherited the money your parents had when they died, and as they were both very powerful wizards there is quite a large sum of galleons in your vault. We will go collect some for your clothes and books. Okay?" Severus replied.
"Okay."
They went down to the Potter vault in a cart and went very far underground with a goblin named Griphook, where Harry took out a bag of galleons. Then they made their way to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, and got several robes and some trousers, shirts, pants, socks, jumpers, a pair of boots, trainers and a jacket.
Once they left the robe shop Severus and Harry went to get his prescription updated for his glasses. His glasses were significantly too low for his current vision. With his new glasses on, they went to Flourish and Blotts to get some books for Harry to read.
"Severus, may I get the textbooks for first years now so I could read ahead?" Harry asked nervously.
"I don't see why not. We will also get you a few other books that are more enjoyable, alright?" Said Severus
